"Things I Know"

At 3 in the morning
When you should be fast asleep
Dreaming of the one who makes your heart ache
I realize all the things I knew
These are the things I know to be true

I know you wake up with the sun
Because you forget to draw the curtains at night
Allowing golden streamers to fall over your room
The sun light gets to kiss you good morning
When your hair sticks up in the back of your head
Before you have to force yourself to leave your fortress of sheets
I know the morning is made for you

I know the first person you think about is her
The eyes that you can recall so vividly
Haunting every inch of your memories
And the burgundy color of your pillows reminds you of her hair
Yet you refuse to throw them out
I know you miss her

I know you're in love
By the smile across your lips that reaches your eyes
And the blush that covers your cheeks
When you say her name your voice softens
As if saying it too loud would shatter your fragile heart
But she already did that for you
I know you wish she hadn't

I know that you are a poet's dream muse
Your lips are the definition of midnight longing
The tone of your voice is why my knees are so weak
And those eyes that hold the home to your secrets
Will be the cause of my downfall
I know I'm in love

I know I will never admit this
How my sleepless nights are spent describing the utter perfection of your arms around my waist
You will never hear my voice speak the words I wrote for you
My fear overcomes my urges
This started as things I knew but these are all about you
Because right now you're the only thing I can focus on
I know nothing about love.
