"Backup Plan"

I apologize for the ink stains
Transferred onto your skin when we
Hold hands

My fingers smudge the pen
Soaking notebook pages

As I write you stacks of love letters
Disguised as innocent poems

Prepare yourself for late night calls
Creating run away plans under stars

I will want to tangle myself in you
Kiss your lips unexpectedly
Just to make you feel loved

I will curl into your side
Deep in my sleep because of the hours
Spent thinking of you each night and sunrise

Are you sure you're ready
For the times when I describe you
Only metaphors

Trying to to ease the insecurity
Running through your veins

Because I don't see you
The way my friends do

All I have would pour out of me
But you never gave me the chance to be
Anything more than your entertainment

I hope she gives you her love
The way I would have

You chose sex over lovesick poetry
And that's okay

Just don't expect me
To wait for you

When you leave her
Don't search for me
Because I will be gone

I deserve more than to be
Tosses aside

I'm not going to be your backup plan.
