there are times when dreams turn to nightmares
the comfort of bed sheets becomes an ocean of empty space
and a pillow is drenched in salt water tears...
or maybe sweat and the memory of fears

we were a dream, sugar sweet and full of possibilities
the only absence i felt was from discomfort
you meant safety and love
my imagination could never replace what you were to me
and no other person could ever be

even in sleep no one is free from imperfection
nightmares are dreams nobody wants to have
but you can never deny their inevitability
we turned into night terrors
neither of us like waking in a soaking shirt
but swallowing pride tastes like swallowing dirt

dreams out number nightmares
if we refuse to sleep in fear of struggles
we lose our chance of feeling love's ease
there will be times when we wake up in tears but let them stain my cheeks
i will live a thousand nightmares to give us a handful of dreams
so no matter what fights we go through
i will still continue loving you
