We were sitting on the grass in the school yard whilst Maggie angrily ripped off the innocent blades of grass.
"Hey, what did the grass ever do you wrong?" Nath asked as she put down her book.
"I am just so angry. Just because your mother is a high ranked member in the Vampire society she shouldn't be able to run around and oppress people like that." Maggie exclaimed as she folded her arms together.
"I do agree with you but there is nothing to do about it." Nath prompted and looked at Maggie. I swallowed as I stared at them both. I truly hope I won't be the one to come between them. That was certainly not my intention. Actually, I have no intentions at all coming here. I am still not sure what I am doing here. My grandmother told me to attend and therefor I am.
"That is true, but it's not like Nath will start to avoid us, right Nath?" said Leon who was sitting beside Maggie, leaning against a tree.
Nath let out a quiet, unbelievable laugh.
"Like that would ever happen." She then said.
Maggie's angry yet worried expression slowly shifted into a pleased and genuinely happy expression.
"I love you, Nath!" Maggie exclaimed as she threw her arms around Nath's neck pushing her onto the grass. I quickly made way for them by lifting my folded legs up.
These vampires were so different from what I expected. Though my expectations are characterized my old fashioned books and TV shows. Of course I've heard of twilight and the likes of if but it almost makes me puke. I'd rather keep myself to Jane Austen and the works of Shakespeare. Yeah, very cool, so hip, Quinn. Though my preconceptions were easily crushed by these three beings. I couldn't help but to smile. Without really thinking I begun laughing at the loving scene going down infront of me. I made eye contact with Maggie who saw my laughing expression and decided to drag me down with them. Landing on Nath she let out a scoff.
"Don't leave me out of this." Leon said as he threw himself on top of us.
"Get your fat ass off me." Maggie said whilst laughing.
In the midst of all our laughing I could hear someone clear their throat, one after one we stilled our movements. We looked up and saw a shadow cast over us from no other than Elenor. We all struggled to sit up straight. Elenor smiled. Maybe because it seemed like it would not be such a horrifying experience for me here at the vampire academy.
"Quinn, I was thinking that you'd probably want to call your friend." Elenor said with a soft voice. It was then I remembered that I did not have my phone with me anymore. I quickly patted all my pockets that I wore until I was Elenor reaching out with a phone towards me.
"Here, use this." She prompted.
I thanked her quietly as I stood up and received it. I smiled at my newly found friends as I went towards the open gates into the lonely hallway. I entered the one of two phone numbers that was necessary to remember, Amanda's, the other one being my late grandmothers. I pressed call and then moved the phone to my ear. After just two signals I heard Amandas familiar voice. Just by hearing her voice my tears started to form in my eyes. I did not know I was sad until this very phone call. How could I not be sad? This day was literally the death of my normal life, how suiting, I'm wearing black clothes.
"Quinn?!" I heard Amanda shout at the other end.
"Amanda?" I answered carefully, not letting her hear the lump in my throat.
"Where the hell are you?" She asked worryingly in an angry tone.
"You know about my attitude towards conspiracy theories, what would I do if aliens kidnapped you?" Amanda said seriously which only made me laugh. This was so like Amanda.
"Why are you laughing, huh? this is serious business." She continued on which made me laugh even more. Oh, I'm going to miss Amanda. I though smiling as I had managed my laughs.
"But hearing you laugh... I guess I do not have to worry too much, right?" she asked carefully.
Yes you do, you do have to worry. These words were the words I wanted to tell her but I could not. Without even asking anyone I knew it was forbidden to speak about vampires to humans. otherwise I or the human kind would probably already heard about them.
"No, You don't have to worry." I said keeping my smile up.
"I'm glad to hear that but I would have preferred if you would have told me that you found a new place and that you hired a moving firm. Then I could have prepared myself by, oh I don't know, wearing clothes?" she said sarcastically. It took me a while to comprehend the information I just received.
"Oh, yes, I'm sorry, I should've..." At this moment I was just blurting out words.
"doesn't matter." she said and I could hear her smile.
"Anyway, where is it? are you there now? should we meet up before I leave for the airport?" she spurted out question after question catching me off guard.
"Ah, It's close but I'm not home." I said carefully.
"Not home? where are you then, Starbucks?" she asked, meaning the "usual" Starbucks since there are about thirty Starbucks close to our apartment, her apartment.
"no... I'm in Germany!" I said quickly, maybe to quick.
"Germany?" Amanda repeated confused.
"What the hell are you doing in Germany?" she asked. I looked around in vain to come up with an excuse to why I would suddenly be in Germany. Really, Germany, was that the only thing I could come up with?
"yeah... eh, apparently my grandmother had a cousin here who wanted to meet me." I tried then biting my lip.
"oh? why didn't you tell me?" Amanda said fully accepting my lie. How, I did not know. She knew that I wasn't that spontaneous, not like Amanda herself.
"Sorry, It was quite stressed." I apologized.
"It's okay. Though this means we won't see each other before I leave for Detroit." she said sullenly. I hummed in agreement, being as sad as her.
Amanda was my best friend and had been so for the last 5 years of my life. We meet one summer during a reading camp. Of course, I was overjoyed to be there, reading was my passion in an early age. Though Amanda who hated to read would do anything in order to not read. It's weird how well we found each other.
"We should hang up, it must be expensive calling from Germany." she finally said.
"oh, yeah, totally." was the only words I could manage to leave my lips. This was more sad than I thought it would be but during our farewell it dawned upon me. This might be the last time I hear her voice, at least for a long time.
"Well then, See you when I see you and hear you when I hear you my fork." Amanda said, saying the phrase we made up one summer when we wouldn't see each other until school started again. It was also the time I learned how to pronounce utensils.
"See you when I see you and hear you when I hear you my knife." I answered her.
"Amanda, I love you." I said quickly before she would hung up.
"huh? Well, I love you too." She said and laughed.
"Bye." I said smiling as I hung up.
I stood there for a while pressing the phone against my chest smiling. I knew I might not hear her voice for a long time but this was enough for now.
"Hey, you, come with me." A tall, dark haired boy with amazing features suddenly stood infront of me grabbing me by the wrist dragging me along with him.
