I sighed only for show. I was somehow excited, not that anyone would ever know. Skillpractice, What did it even mean? He raised his eyebrows prompting me to hurry. I stood up and threw my backpack on in the same movement.
"See you at lunch?" I confirmed, receiving their nods before I made my way towards Dwight. His gaze followed me until I reached his side. I noticed how he had placed his hands in his pockets as we walked down the corridor. I wanted to ask him where we were going but keeping up with him, catching my breath as well as speaking did not bode well. I really did feel like a puppy sprinting after Dwight. Memory of our shared kisses appeared in my mind but I quickly dismissed it, not wanting to be affected by Dwights action. I decided to ignore the happenings, trying to take control of my own emotions.
"Could you quiet down?" He said as we turned a corner.
"I didn't say anything?" I questioned.
"You're breathing as loud as a whale." He stated to which I only frowned. We made our way through the castle reaching an open area within the school ground which I recognized. I had passed these benches when Elenor first brought me here. Dwight located an empty picnic bench, a bit secluded, where we sat down in front of each other. He laid his hand entwined together on the table making eye contact. I twitched in my seat, nervousness creeping up.
"First thing first; have you've noticed any changes?" Dwight asked. I swallowed unwillingly before I spoke.
"Not really. I mean, not that I can recall." I managed to extort.
"I see." Dwight replied, unwinding in his seat.
"I guess we'll have to start from the beginning then." He sighed. There was something within me that didn't want to disappoint Dwight, mostly because I wanted to prove myself. I didn't know what to respond to his obviously disgruntled statement so I could only nod in embarrassment.
"We will go through your skills and improve them as well as controlling your bloodlust." Dwight explained and I obviously grimaced once I heard the word blood since annoyance came over Dwights face. I cleared my throat only to seem unfazed. He ignored my reaction and continued on.
"I figured we would start slowly by concentrating on hearing." I nodded slowly trying to figure out what that exactly meant.
"Vampires have greater hearing since we are a superior being. We can choose weather we want to hear something far off or ignore it and only listen close by." Dwight spoke and it took every ounce of me not to roll my eyes.
"Okay, so what do I do?" I straightened my posture ready to learn.
"You said you had not noticed any changes. That is probably because you haven't tried to notice." Dwight explained and I hummed in acknowledgement.
"Close your eyes." he demanded. At first I didn't dare to since I didn't know what he'd do but he sighed and ordered me once again to close my eyes to which I responded by closing them. The world went black and Dwight spoke.
"Now, tell me what you hear." I begun listening to what was around me.
"I hear ... birds, the wind in the trees, students." I mumbled knowing full well he could hear me.
"Be more specific, what's in the trees, what do the student say?" He inquired. I focused on the students who I had seen when we arrived. It wasn't too hard to figure out what they were talking about. I opened my eyes and looked at Dwight.
"Well, the students over there ..." I bobbed my head in there direction.
"are talking about a party during the weekend." I stated and shrugged my shoulders. To my surprise Dwight sighed. Why? I had done what he told me to do.
"You were listening to them?" He accused me. In my bewilderment I could only answer as a question.
"Yes?"
"They are practically 20 feet away. You could hear them with human senses." He continued to arraign.
"So?" I questioned.
"Don't listen to what you can see! You have to hear beyond yourself." He tried to explain but I could not understand his reasoning.
"I didn't see them! I had my eyes closed, remember?" I defended myself.
"But you knew they were there. Focus on what you don't know where it is." He stared at me obviously trying to convey his premise. I sighed and closed my eyes again.
"Focus." I could hear Dwight whisper. I could feel my brows furrow as I tried to exert my hearing. Yet all I could hear were the same students talking, the same wind in the same trees, the same birds chirping away. A few seconds passed with my eyes closed listening with all my might. I opened my eyes and sighed in defeat.
"I can't do it Dwight." I shamefully admitted, my head hanging low.
"I figured that much." He said and leaned back in his seat. I wanted to talk back but I had nothing to back up with.
"Well, we will try again so no need to feel down." Dwight said and I looked up at him in surprise but his gaze were turned. Did he just comfort me? I cleared my throat and spoke. I did not want to turn this into something weird.
"We have skillpractice again after lunch." I stated, gaining his attention.
"What are we doing then?" I asked.
"Testing your speed. So bring running clothes." He said as he stood up.
"We're running?" I moaned as I mimicked his motion and stood up.
"Because it is more sensible to sit down to test your speed." He spat sarcasm as he raised an eyebrow. I frowned and crossed my arms over my chest to which he only smirked. Was mocking me fun?
"See you after lunch, sugar." Dwight said and was about to leave before he came to an abrupt halt. I watched him in confusion. Then he brought up his bag reaching for its content. He turned around and made his way towards me holding out a book. I recognized it as the math book we were currently using.
"Oh, you already got it for me." I burst as I received it.
"What did Mr. Reichard say? Did he think it was rude of me not coming in person?" I asked worried.
"Who cares?" Dwight answered nonchalantly. I sighed as I rolled my eyes.
"Seriously though, don't get to close to him." He stated serious.
"Why?" I asked, letting curiosity getting the best of me. The only answer I got was a stare then he turned around and left.
"Okay ... touchy much?" I shrugged and put down my math book and went to find my way to the canteen.
