I made my way towards the gym and I ran into Dwight waiting outside. He was wearing black shorts and a t-shirt in the same colour. Once again, his hair was tied up in an elastic showing off his astonishing facial features.
"Took you long enough." He criticized. I grimaced.
"I walked as fast as I could." I retorted. He scoffed and turned on his heel and I could do nothing but to follow suit. He entered the gym and we reached the safety lockets.
"You can't run around with a handbag." He noted and as hinted I took the strap off my shoulder and placed my bag in on of the lockets, turned the key and took it out.
"Come on." Dwight said and jerked with his head towards the exit.
"Will we be running for long?" I asked.
"Why? You don't want to spend time with me?" He smirked.
"Not really. But I guess the feeling is mutal?" I retorted but to my surprise I didn't get an answer. We made our way behind gym building and a running track appeared in my vision.
"Are you channeling your inner dog?" Dwight smirked. I took the hint and closed my gaping mouth. We reached the track and Dwight turned towards me.
"Stretch." He ordered. I awkwardly shifted in my spot not really knowing what to do. I hadn't set my foot on a running track in a long time, let alone stretched in order to run. He sighed, visibly. Then he took a step towards me, closing the space between us. He placed his hands on my hips and made me face him. Without any warning my heart begun beating faster, startled by the sudden touch. I had tried hard to ignore any thought of our previous encounters which required this much closeness but this made my mind spiral. I sneaked a glimpse at Dwight and I noticed a playful smile lingering on his lips.
"You okay there, sugar?" He questioned. I cleared my throat needlessly loud before I spoke.
"I'm fine. What are you doing?" I said in a clear monotone voice only because I was trying to compose myself.
"We're stretching. Place your right foot behind you." He explained to which I complied. Dwight let go of my hips but the heat from his hands lingered. He took a step backward and looked at me.
"Now place your weight forward on your left leg." He continued to explain. I felt stupid. I knew how to stretch. I knew this exercise. Albeit, in front of Dwight I knew nothing. He continued on showing me various exercises before finishing up. After a few minutes of stretching I followed Dwight towards the inner track.
"We'll start by jogging slightly and increasing speed as we go." He explained and placed himself next to me.
"We're running together?" I asked.
"You'll be running, for me it'll be like walking." He smirked. Once again, he was feeling superior. I could only roll my eyes.
"Let's go." He said and we begun jogging. After a few minutes of a steady pace Dwight looked over at me.
"Ready to speed up?" He grinned. He undoubtedly enjoyed speed but I was up for it.
"Ready as can be." I gave him a smug look and increased my speed at an alarming rate enjoying the startled look upon Dwights face. However, not seconds later Dwight had caught up with me and was running a few steps ahead of me. Not wanting to back out without a fight a gave some more and fastened my pace some more, running up beside Dwight. I attempted to gain more speed and managed to get ahead of him for a few seconds before he once again was ahead of me. I knew I couldn't beat a vampire but I could at least try to gain on him trying to run as a faster human. Dwight noticed after a while that I was getting winded and slowed his pace which I followed suit until we came to a halt. I bent over with my hands on my knees breathing heavy.
"Quite impressive." he stated.
"Yes?" I panted and managed to glance up at him. He looked as if he hadn't even moved. Still as a statue, no breathing movement at the least.
"For a human." He grinned. Of course he needed to specify me being human. I grimaced. A few seconds passed and Dwight walked infront of me, shadowing me from the bright sun.
"You ready to go again? We are going to time you." He stated and I straightened my posture only to stretch once again.
"Sure." I nodded.
"Let's get into position." We walked up to the starting line and in a second Dwight was standing 100 meter away by the finishing-line. He raised his arm in the air and in the same second he lowered his arm I sprinted faster than I've ever manage to. Raising my arms in rhythm to my running. Not until I rushed by Dwight did I decrease my pace. I jogged back to Dwight who was still standing by the finish line, smirking.
"Well, you're as fast a the fasted human alive at the moment." He said, sounding somewhat impressed which caused a swelling in my chest. Impressing Dwight made me slightly proud.
"What can I say I'm kind of extraordinary." I boasted, placing my hands on my hips.
"For a-"
"For a human, I know." I interrupted Dwight, rolling my eyes while smirking. I guess I was getting used to it. I either had to let it bother me or accept it. We kept on timing my sprints only to call it quits. Dwight and I begun walking back towards the school gym to retrieve my belongings.
"What's your relationship with the headmaster?" I asked as we reached our destination. I was being nosy but curiosity got the best of me.
"None in particular" was the only answer I got. Dwight opened the door and motioned me to enter. Such a small gesture but it still made my cheeks heat up.
