"Next rule. You are not to live in one place for more than ten years." He explained.
"Woah, I have to move every ten year?" I asked, eyebrows furrowed.
"Well, no more than seven are recommended, but yes, every ten year." He said and shrugged.
"That's not the point, why can't I stay more than ten?" I questioned.
"Are you perhaps stupid?" He asked and arched an eyebrow.
"Excuse me?"
"I thought it was pretty obvious that we will stop aging once we've reached our mature age." He explained.
"Oh," I blinked.
"Then ... How old are you?" I asked carefully.
"I'm just as old as you. I have yet to reach my mature age." He explained.
"I see. Then when will you reach your mature age?" I continued on questioning him.
"Who knows, I might stop aging tomorrow or I'll turn old looking and wrinkly." He shrugged and I chuckled.
"Though that will probably not happen." He interrupted my giggling.
"Why is that?" I asked confused.
"In later years vampires have matured quite quickly. Most vampires these days stop aging after reaching their 24th birthday." Dwight said to which I hummed in response.
"Then what if you stop aging at your 12th birthday?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. Dwight shrugged once again.
"Then you'll stop." He said casually.
"You mean, they have to stay a child for the rest of their lives?" I asked wide eyed, raising my voice. He glared at me for my change of tone once again.
"Sorry." I muttered as I slumped down.
"Then, can it happen that someone's child will look older than themselves?" I questioned, arching an eyebrow.
"Well, yes, That could be the case." He answered.
"Weird." I hummed.
"Yes, it is weird, but that is also how it is." He concluded casually.
"Moving on," He begun, gaining my full attention.
"This is probably the most important rule." Dwight continued.
"uh huh?" I sounded.
"You are not to have an offspring with a human." He stated. It took some time for me to process what he just had proclaimed. Since, I clearly was an offspring from both a human and a vampire. Did this mean I was illegal? I opened my mouth several times only to close again, not sure off how I should ask my questions. Dwight sighed.
"Although it is a rule, they've been kinder with the consequences lately." He shrugged.
"Wait, am I to be punished?" I asked, shocked.
"No. You didn't do anything wrong. It wasn't you who brought yourself to this world." He explained.
"Oh." I mumbled.
"So they ones getting punished are the parents?" I asked to which he nodded.
"Although it's more of a pride thing." He admitted.
"Pride?" I arched an eyebrow.
"To have a serious relationship with such a low being as a human is hurtful for vampires pride." He explained simple and degrading. I rolled my eyes, annoyed by this view of humans, yet I didn't comment. I don't want to say I was used to his demeaning remarks, but at this point I knew his view and opinion. However, now I have more understanding to why I cannot reveal who my father was. If pride is such a valued concern in their society and humans are regarded as disgraceful beings, I can see how the rule came to. When I meet the headmaster for the first time he told me my father was an honored vampire and other did not know about him breaking the law, this is what he meant.
"But at times, aren't pride overrated?" I shrugged nonchalantly, looking down at the pen in my hand.
"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so." He replied making me look up in surprise, his expression cut in stone.
"Shakespeare?" I questioned.
"Hamlet." He affirmed.
"Hm," I hummed in response. So he did know his poetry. We sat in silence for a while until Dwight spoke.
"You should probably hurry along to Civics." He reckoned. My eyes widened and I hastily reached for my phone to check the time. I had seven more minutes until class begun. I hurriedly grabbed my note and shoved it down my bag. I stood up only to freeze in my movements, I turned to Dwight. He sighed.
"I would love to show you the way, but I don't feel like it." Dwight shrugged as he leaned back in his seat. I let out an slight, almost unhearable growl as I grimaced. I turned on my heel and left. On my way I heard Dwight yell after me.
"It's the same classroom where we had History!" I did not stop nor slow down, I had no reason to. I would not thank him in anyway. Sure, he saved me some time but being a rude jerk at that did not make him deserve a thank you. I muttered as I practically ran down the hall. I was not quite sure on where I was going but I knew somewhat the direction. As I made my way someone suddenly grabbed me by my arm. I came to an halt and saw someones hand wrapped around my arm. My gaze went upwards the unfamiliar arm and to my dismay and horror I locked eyes with Cain. I took a sharp breath and instinctually tried to free myself from his grip which he only tightened.
"Hey, Princess. You're in a hurry?" Cain said and a smirk appeared on his lips. For a second I wanted to make myself as small as possible but my mind wouldn't let me.
"As a matter of fact, yes, I am in a hurry." I said and once again tried to wrench myself free in vain.
"What an coincidence, so am I!" He announced happily.
"Then, shouldn't you get a move on?" I muttered while turning my face away so I could freely roll my eyes.
"I should, but Civics are boring." Cain whined, emphasizing the word boring. I looked up at him in dread.
"You have Civics as well?" I questioned, wide eyed.
"Wait, Princess have Civics?" Cain sang overjoyed. I didn't have time enough to reply until he let go of my arm only to grab me by the wrist dragging me after him.
"Then let's go, we shouldn't be late for class!" He continued chirping. I sighed inwardly. I'd rather sit next to Dwight than ever be near Cain. We reached the familiar hall and Cain halted infront of a classroom.
"Right on time." Cain smiled.
"Great." I huffed, I was out of breath and could hardly utter a word.
"Oh," Cain chuckled.
"I just remembered, you're human." He continued.
"Yeah?" I breathed. I was standing bent over, with my hands on my knees.
"Strange, how could I miss your smell?" Cain pointed out as he crouched down to meet my eyes. I glared at him but held in an grimace. He chuckled. I straightened my posture and we made our way through the entrance.
"That was in the last minute Mister Milton." The teacher who was a seemingly young woman growled as we entered.
"Sorry ma'm." Cain winked at her as he apologized nonchalantly.
"I presume you're Miss Dale?" He woman reckoned as she noticed me. I looked up at the slim teacher who I noticed gave me a fake smile. I swallowed nervously. Not really following why she would give me a fake smile, had I done her anything wrong?
"Uh, yeah, that's me." I stumbled upon my words.
"Aren't your turning teacher with you?" She questioned. I became lost by her question and blinked confused before answering.
"Dwight?" I asked, tilting my head.
"Yes." She answered, wearing a smaller fake smile by now.
"Is he supposed to be here?" I continued on questioning.
"Yes." The teacher repeated. Oh, that jerk. He was ditching class and letting me find my way because he didn't want to be caught! Or so I hoped. It could also be that he didn't want to show me the way.
