We locked eyes and his expressed confusion. I knew for certain my eyes expressed annoyance.
"There you are, Dwight." The headmaster exclaimed standing up. I tried to hide an annoyed sigh leaving my lungs but I saw Dwight noticing and he rolled his eyes which I mimicked.
"What took you so long?" Mr. Vonner questioned as he reached Dwight and laid his hand on his shoulder.
"You know, if you wanted to meet both the human and I you could have just said so. You didn't have to make me go all the way just to ask her come here alone." Dwight complained. His way of speaking dumbfounded me. Did he not know who he was addressing? The headmaster.
"I know, I know. But I wanted to talk to Miss Dale on my own first." Mr. Vonner said putting weight onto my name, trying to correct the way Dwight had referred to me. To this he only rolled his eyes once again.
"So, what do you want?" Dwight asked attempting to change subject.
"I want you to be Miss Dales teacher." Mr. Vonner explained which only made Dwight gape.
"What? I thought it was Joshua's turn?" Dwight complained once again.
"I thought it would be easier to watch over Miss Dale since you two have several classes together." Mr. Vonner responded. Dwight opened his mouth several times to complained but couldn't find the words. I only sat quietly in my chair, trying to make myself as small as I could. I did not have a say in this but I was not satisfied. I would rather have someone like Maggie to teach me. Though I did not dare to go against the headmaster. My efforts on trying to merge with the chair were in vain since I could feel Dwight's gaze upon me. I ordered every nerve in body not to look up but I could not resist. I was meet by a pair of eyes filled with irritation. Why he would direct his irritation towards me was incomprehensible. It is not like I asked for him to teach me.
"Do we agree?" The headmaster said and my attention returned to him, or rather, his back. He was standing with his back against us gazing out over the school yard through the huge window behind his desk. Neither Dwight or I answered. I didn't answer mostly because I didn't think I was in a position to answer such a question. After a moment of silence the headmaster glanced over his shoulder. His gaze wandered upon Dwight who stood still, clenching his fists. He really don't want to do this, I thought as I swallowed nervously. What would happen to me if Dwight didn't agree. A few more silent seconds passed and my gaze went from the headmaster to Dwight several times until Dwight finally gave his answer.
"Understood." was the only word which left his mouth. In only a matter of seconds he had turned around and made his way out from the headmaster's office.
"Then I would like you to give her the first lesson." The headmasters exclaim made Dwight stop his track. He stood still but then I could see his shoulders slightly lift only to sink back again, a sigh. He didn't answer the headmaster but turned around to lock eyes with me once again. The sudden eye contact made me flinch.
"What?" This was the second word I had uttered since he had arrived at the headmasters office. Dwight jerked his head towards the exit, motioning me to follow him. I quickly stood up, grabbed my bag which I left at the floor next to my chair.
"Thank you for your time, headmaster." I said quickly as I made my way towards Dwight. The headmaster didn't respond but I could hear a slight laugh from his direction.
"Move it." Dwight said and gave me a slight push as I passed him.
"Bully." I muttered and rolled my eyes.
Although I was the one exiting the office before him, he was at least five steps ahead of me and it seemed like he only got further a head of me. Before leaving Emiliy's office I gave her a slight nod and a smile which she returned to me. I think I heard her tell me 'good luck' but I had already left the office.
"Wait up, don't walk so fast." I huffed, trying to keep up with Dwight's fast pace.
"Don't be so slow then." He replied, annoyed.
"Well, if you didn't know it, I'm not as fast as you because I am human." I explained with the same annoyance in my voice. He halted and turned around. All I received was an angry glare which I happily replied to in the same manner.
"You know, if you had forgotten." I continued and I couldn't stop myself from rolling my eyes. I used to have this habit of rolling my eyes long time ago when I was annoyed but my granny got so irritated by it so I had forced myself to get rid of this habit. Though meeting Dwight seemed to have brought it back.
"Exactly. You are human." He stated after a few seconds of glaring at me. He then took a few steps towards me, startling me. What was he going to do? He didn't say anything but stared at me.
"What?" I prompted. He kept his mouth shut and turned around. Dwight begun walking again and once again I tried to keep up. He lead me through the school building, passing the cafeteria and the schoolyard.
"Where exactly are we going, and why?" I asked as my curiosity flooded over. He didn't answer immediately but he did answer, which I appreciated.
"The library." He replied, short and simple.
"Because?" I pushed.
"We need to make a schedule." another short reply.
"What for?" I asked grimacing.
"I already have one." I continued.
"A turning schedule." He explained not looking at me as he turned another corner. After this short conversation silence were held. Usually I didn't have anything against silence but this was too suffocating.
"It's a pretty big school." I stated trying to start a conversation. I didn't expect a reply so I just kept going.
"I thought my previous school was large. We had four stories. Then again, it wasn't a castle." I continued to talking about anything not wanting to be caught in an awkward silence. Suddenly he came to a halt subsequently making me walk into him. He turned around and gave me a glance.
"we're here." He said and entered through a par of double doors. We entered the most astonishing library. It seemed like the roof would go on forever, as well as the book shelfs which reached the roof from the floor. You could not see the end of the hall from the entrance. Caught up in admiration I later noticed that Dwight were no where to be seen.
"Dwight?" I mumbled in confusion. I let my gaze wander the room, searching for him. The only thing I noticed were glares and stares from other students, some grimacing. In order not to freeze in my spot I took a slight step forward.
"Hi there." I heard someone say and I hastily turned around only to lock eyes with Cain.
