I woke up to the sunlight making it's way through the curtains covering the only window in our room. I rubbed my eyes and let out a slight yawn before turning my gaze towards Maggie's bed. She was still fast asleep or so I assumed, I couldn't see her breathing, probably because she didn't need oxygen. However, she did not move. I quickly arose from my position and reached for my bag placed beside my bed. I brought it up in my bed and unzipped the small pocket on the front. I attained my phone and pressed on the only existing button and the screen lit up and a picture of Amanda and I. 7:20 a.m. First class doesn't start until 9 a.m. I unlocked my phone and another picture of Amanda and I appeared. Both of these pictures were taken this summer when Amanda and I made an spontaneous trip to the beach and skipping our algebra class. I smiled at the fond memory. I felt my mind drifting away filling me with regret. Not particularly me coming here, rather that I didn't cherish my time with Amanda enough. If only I had realised earlier that we wouldn't spend as much time together now as we had before I would have cherished our moments more. I heard noise coming from Maggie's side and I shifted my gaze towards her. I smiled when her sleepy eyes meet mine above the duvet.
"You're up?" her husky morning voice said. She sat straight up and her bed-head appeared. She yawned as she rubbed her eyes.
"Oh, you do have a phone?" Maggie said when she noticed the object in my hand.
"Yeah." I said and shrugged, it wasn't that important if I had one or not.
"I found it a bit suspicious when you had to borrow Mrs. Moreau's phone. I mean, who doesn't own a phone?" She said wrinkling her nose in confusion.
"I just forgot it in my bag." I replied, smiling at her confusion.
"I guess that's for the better. Then you won't have the urge to look at it in class, which you are not allowed to." Maggie said shivering which made me tilt my head. She leaned a bit closer, wide eyed.
"If you are caught using your phone in class they may have your phone in custody for a week!" Maggie explained horrified.
"Just thinking about it sends shivers down my spine." Maggie continued, wrapping her arms around her. I couldn't help but to chuckle and Maggie joined in. My phone wasn't really a prized possession but sure, I like my phone. Though, not to the same extent as Maggie.
"We should probably get ready. I'll use the bathroom first!" She exclaimed as she practically flew out of bed.
"Sure, go ahead." I said as she closed the door behind her. I was left alone in silence which I didn't dislike. However, at times of loneliness and silence thoughts begins to erupt. I wonder if I would meet Dwight today and if he had come up with a schedule. Perhaps I won't survive that long. I shook my head. No, no such thoughts. Our morning preparation were just like any other morning routine more or less. As we descended the stairs we noticed Nath leaning against the wall.
"You're late." she said and huffed.
"No, you're early." Maggie grinned at her. We did take sometime because Maggie wanted to show some of her photos she took last year. She was quite excited and wanted to tell me every story behind each picture.
"You're such a sloth." Someone laughed as they descended the stairs opposite of us, the stairs leading to the boys dormitory. Our attention was caught and we noticed Leon and another student appear. His expression shone as he looked up at us.
"Morning, guys." He said as he reached us.
"How astonishing, you're usually the one to arrive first." Nath said crossing her arms before her chest.
"Well it's because of this sleepyhead." Leon said as he gave his darkhaired friend a slight smack at the back of his head.
"I couldn't help it..." His friend answered, looking down.
"Sure, sure. It wasn't your choice to sit up all night playing video games." Leon exclaimed sarcastically. His friend didn't reply but shot him a glare through the messy bangs covering his eyes.
"I know, I know, sorry." Leon said and backed off. Quite a curious scen.
"By the way, I saw Connor leave just now." This caught his friends attention.
"Already?" the friend said to which Nath nodded. In a matter of seconds he was out of our view.
"Okay." Leon said wide eyed as he dragged out the 'O' in okay.
"Must have been a new game release or something." Maggie said and shrugged.
"We should head out as well." Leon said and turned towards the door. At the same moment students were heard descending the stairs. I was grateful for Leon's remark. I did not have any desire to be around death glares. Just as we were about to leave Mrs. Collins called out for us. We turned around and saw Mrs. Collins run down the hall with a small paper bag.
"Mrs. Moreau asked me to deliver this for you dear." She said as she handed me the bag.
"It's breakfast." She continued and smiled widely.
"She also beg forgiveness for only giving you a sandwich as dinner yesterday. She promise she will give you some more substantial food in the future." Mrs. Collins explained.
"Oh, I see. Thank you Mrs. Collins." I said, gladly receiving my breakfast. We turned around once again to leave.
"Oh, and Miss Dale. I was asked to give you this." We came to a halt and I turned towards Mrs. Collins who had her hand in her apron pocket only to bring up a piece of paper. She gave it to me and as I unfolded it I noticed it was my schedule. However on an other glance I noticed other classes had appeared. Though they were not the usual classes. A text had been written at the end of the paper.
"This will be your schedule from now on." signed Dwight.
