"When there's a smile in your heart, there's no better time to start." ~ Peter Pan
* * *I HOPE YOU NOTICE THE EASTER EGG!
"So how was the party?" Kye asked as he drove away from the bowling alley.
"It was awesome!" Evangeline shouted pumping her fists in the air.
"Yeah. I surprisingly had a good time too," I tell him looking out the front windshield.
"Well that's good," Kye says stopping at a red light. "How about we go as a family next weekend? It could be a family outing: us, Rosalinda, Vladimir, and Astrid. How does that sound?"
"That sounds really nice," I say nodding my head and drumming my fingers on the door handle.
"Yeah!" Evangeline shouts out again with a big smile on her face. "Can we get ice cream?"
"Why ice cream?" Kye asks with a quirked eyebrow but changing our route anyways towards the ice cream shop that's close to the neighborhood.
"Mommy promised?" Kye asked turning to look at me as he pulled into a parking spot.
"Don't look at me like that," I say turning away from him. "I told her that if she won that I would see if you would take us out to victory ice cream." I unbuckle my seat belt busying myself so I don't have to look at his bright eyes and open my door.
"What do you mean by 'us'? Did you win?" he asks unbuckling himself and Evangeline and setting her down on the sidewalk.
"Run!" I shout out picking up Evangeline in my arms and running to the ice cream shop's front door.
"Hey wait for me!" he shouts as he chased after us.
"Only if you buy us both ice cream!" I shout back at him gathering strange looks from the other patrons.
"Fine just stop running around and acting like idiots!" Kye agrees finally catching up to us and trapping us in his arms. "Gotcha!"
"Ah! Ok fine! Deal!"

". . .And then his ball went to the side thingy, and I won," Evangeline explained as we walked into the house after getting our ice cream.
"Sounds like you smoked them all," Kye says locking the door behind us.
"I sure did!" she says with a smile before looking confused, "What does 'smoked' mean?"
"That you beat them all," I tell her laughing a bit.
"Oh that makes sense," she says grabbing a coloring book and flipping the pages searching for a page to start coloring.
"Well I'm going to go take a shower," I say starting to walk up the stairs.
"Do you want to watch a movie after?" Kye asks me causing me to pause for a minute. He looks really hopeful with a small smile on his face and his eyes smiling.
"Sure why not," I say with a smile working its way on my face as I continue up the stairs.
"But while she showers, you can color with me!" Evangeline says throwing a pack of crayons at him. I laugh at her antics as I pull out the clothes I'm going to put on after my shower.
I run the water finding the perfect temperature before stripping down and getting in. Letting the water warm me up and run down my back relaxing my aching muscles, I think about today. I really had a good time going out with Evangeline and felt accepted after the misunderstanding was cleared up. Standing up to those bitches also felt nice, and Evangeline standing up for me swelled me up with pride. After rinsing the shampoo and conditioner from my hair, I got out and dried off. I walk out of the bathroom as soon as I finish putting my clothes on and go downstairs.
"I'll hang it up in my room," I hear Kye tell Evangeline.
"Look! Mommy's done!" Evangeline says pointing at me.
"Okay then. What movie do you want to watch Imogen?" Kye asks me coming up the stairs to meet me.
"Doesn't matter to me," I say shrugging my shoulders and following him into his room.
"Then I'll just surprise you then. Well just sit down on my bed while I pop one in," he says walking over to his movie collection to select a movie for us to watch.
We sit in silence as we watch Big Hero 6. Kye looks at me funny when his brother dies and I cry while I punch him in the shoulder. About half-way through the movie, Kye looks as if he was struggling to say something before he mustered up the courage to.
"Evangeline told me about what happened at the bowling alley," he starts off causing me to turn and look at him. "I can't believe that happened, and I'm sorry I wasn't there."
"It's not your fault," I tell him snuggling into him a bit.
"I know it's not, but I feel like it is," he says with a sigh. "But I'm proud that you stood up for Evangeline and called her your daughter."
"But in a way, I feel like she is," I say tilting my head upwards a bit. The look in his eyes is something I can't exactly place.
"I'm glad you feel that way," he says in a low voice his head tilting towards mine to where our foreheads are touching.
Before our lips meet though, thoughts run through my mind.
This wasn't supposed to happen! I wasn't supposed to fall for him! It's only a deal and nothing more, so why do I feel like that isn't the truth?
Looking into his eyes though, I knew I was falling for him even though I didn't plan on it. Before I could back myself out of it, I kissed him.
