I looked around to see ancient-looking symbols drawn into the soil of the forest clearing. I realized I couldn't hear the sounds of the forest tonight. It was as if all the prowlers of the night had scampered away to their dens. Not a single cloud was painted onto the night sky and dainty stars twinkled above my head. The beam of the full moon chased away the shadows of the clearing. It felt as if the Moon Goddess was here with us.

"My brothers and sisters of Moonstone Pack. Thank you for joining us on behalf of welcoming the new members, Sharon and Kate!" The sound of applause broke the silence of the forest clearing. I could feel Astrid's emotions. She was proud, excited and nervous, just like me. Alpha Blake raised his hands and the pack that had gathered in front of him immediately silenced, waiting for him to speak.

"We have all gone through this process before. We know what is to be seen and what is to be felt. To prevent the instinct of a mate, we will have Dylan and Liam chained to a tree. This ensures they will not interfere." Obediently, Beta Dylan and Liam walked towards a thick oak tree.

I was surprised neither of them complained, the wolf instinct in male werewolves usually fought back. Nevertheless, they stood grimly as the silver chains burned into their wrists. I rubbed the soft skin of my wrists, remembering the last time Gamma James chained me down and beat me. The sting of silver was nothing foreign to me.

"Wolves, link hands and the ceremony shall begin." Christy said with her eyes closed. I clutched onto her hand and the hand of the wolf guard next to me. I looked to Sharon and gave her a weak smile. My hands trembled a bit as the excitement grew in my stomach. I could finally live in fear without my old pack.

"Moon Goddess, if you are here with us now, please give us a sign." Alpha Blake said confidently. The power in his voice no longer intimidated me, instead it relaxed and soothed me to know that my future leader was strong. My breath quickened as I realized this was it. I was joining my dream pack. I couldn't stop the smile from forming on my face.

"Show us the vision, the vision of the Destined Warriors. Show us the fate of the two warrior mates, whether it be death, destruction and despair, or one filled with harmony, hope and heroism." Christy chanted with a steely voice. Her confidence suggested accepting new werewolves into their pack was a regular routine.

Suddenly my eyes snapped shut, leaving me in a world of black and my head snapped back. Excruciating pain filled me. I could feel it in my bones, behind my eyes, under my tongue. Everywhere. The burn I was feeling must have been hotter than lava. It had to be. I tried to scream but it felt as though I could no longer control my body.

A clear image began to form as if I had stepped into the land of dreams. This must be the vision, Astrid said excitedly. I was in a dense forest with trees so large I knew they haven't been touched by mankind. I wandered aimlessly until I heard it. The Screaming. The Growls. Then I smelt it. Blood, a lot of it.

I ran towards the sound of what could only be a gut-wrenching war and suddenly, I could no longer move my legs. I was frozen on top of a cliff, looking down onto the blatantly gruesome battlefield. All I could see was red. The red of the fallen werewolves. I could see body parts strewn around carelessly across the field. Was this hell?

I could feel Astrid in the back of my mind. She was tense and ready to shift at any moment. Deep down I must have known this was just a vision, but it felt just like real life. My eyes wandered around the battlefield, watching the werewolves zip around the torn-up terrain. They ran clumsily, slipping on the blood-soaked grass and tripping over torn-off limbs.

My whole body shook with fright when I saw it. It's body was dark purple, so dark it looked almost like black. It was covered with scales from head all the way until the ends of its tail. It had claws so long and sharp, I knew it could cut diamonds apart with ease. It's teeth were razor sharp, made to rip apart anything or anyone that found it's way close enough.

However, all these features formed a creature that held a dangerous beauty. One you would find in the delinquent at the back of your class. It was beautiful. Then it clicked. This creature was no demon. It was a monster. A monster werewolf. This creature had the exact same body shape as us when we shifted. This was a werewolf from hell.

I saw one of these beasts head towards a wolf. The wolf was lone, bloody and broken. It had been abandoned by it's comrades who had gone to seek refuge from this unforgiving war. I could tell this wolf was very strong and had been fighting for quite some time.

My heart broke when I saw this wolf lie on the ground and accept it's death as the beast loomed over it. I broke free from my frozen state and slid down the cliff onto the battlefield. My feet pounded and hit the bloody terrain faster than ever before. "Hey! Over here!" I yelled out to the beast.

The beast turned around and growled at me, as if it was offended that I had interrupted his kill. It slunk towards me with it's tail up, confident that this would be an easy battle. I let Astrid to take complete control, trusting her once again to finish this battle for me. The beast circled around us, assessing us for any weakness. Astrid stood strong refusing to show any. We watched as it took one confident step after another, bathing in the scent of our fear. Suddenly it leapt.

Astrid attempted to leap out of its way, but the beast's long claw caught our soft underbelly. Blood poured out of the wound and Astrid yelped in pain. She stood up once again, refusing to back down. The beast must have sensed this and its excitement grew.

Its long tail flicked back and forth, eager for the battle to continue. It wasted no time to leap at us once again. Astrid surprised it by leaping right at it, then swerving under it to get a good swipe across its torso. It left nothing. No scratch, no mark. Nothing.

Something's wrong. my claws can't get into its scales. Kate. Use the sword a couple of meters to your right. I don't think my fangs and claws can do damage to this thing, Astrid said panicked.

The beast leapt at me again and Astrid leapt to the right, dodging the attack. I shifted mid air and grabbed an abandoned sword covered in blood. Black blood. The beast let out a roar, suddenly enraged that I had discovered the secret weapon that could truly injure it.

I looked at the blade curiously. It was clear as if it had been made out of glass. Elegant engravings of the moon, cloud and wolves decorated the handle. I held onto the sword's handle, sticky from all the dried blood and stood with a newfound confidence. This time, I had to protect Astrid and myself.

I wasted no time in running towards the beast. I ran straight and kept my eyes forward, as the beast leapt at me, I quickly shifted to the right and slashed the beast across its side. It growled in pain and snapped its teeth at the air that held me only moments ago. It's slower than us. Use that to your advantage, Astrid advised. And so I did. We were a blur of scale and flesh and fought with courage and unwavering persistence. In the end, there was only one victor.

I stood beside the beast's fallen body triumphantly. It had shifted back into its original form. A human, like a werewolf did, but something was off about this human body. I couldn't tell what it was. Perhaps it was the pale skin and dark hair.

Upon a closer examination, I saw that it's dark eyes were in fact a dark purple. It could pass off as a dark brown without proper inspection. I was positive that if a human were to see this form, they wouldn't believe anything was out of ordinary. The thought, that something so dangerous could look so innocent, frightened me.

The sword was wedged far into its chest. It had pierced its heart, ending its life. I placed my foot on the beasts body and grabbed onto the sword's handle. I pulled it out of the body and kicked it away. The blood continued to run from the wounds around my feet.

I collapsed onto the floor as my fatigue washed over me. The slash on my torso wasn't healing fast enough. I knew I would die here. I looked upon the blue sky, shining in oblivion to the sins that took place right underneath it. My lips parted as darkness found it's way into my vision. I closed my eyes and welcomed death. I'm sorry Astrid, I said as a tear rolled softly down my bloody cheek.
