Beep. Beep.

The steady beat of the heart monitor drew me out of my haze. I groggily looked around the room to find that Liam had left. "Tori, where's Liam?" I whispered hoarsely.

"Blake and Christy needed him. Badly." Tori began to remove the various tubes and needles inserted into my skin. "Hate to break it to you, but they needed you too."

"How long was I out?" I quickly sat up. Astrid and I didn't like the fact that Liam was out there fighting without us.

"About ten hours. You should have back the majority of your strength." Tori slipped a silver dagger into my hand. "Take this, I switched out your steel weapons for silver ones."

"It's against werewolf law, we can't-" I looked at her grim face and knew things must have gotten bad. Really bad.

"I know. We all know. The steel was taking too long to kill the possessed enemy. We lost more than 40 werewolves while you were in operation." Shakily, Tori handed me my protective gear. "Change and get out there to finish this battle. The Levagairs almost got to the pack house at one point, but it's clear that they will lose now." The Vekaldi tears, Astrid growled.

I took a deep breath as I stripped off my hospital gown, but a faint white tracing caught my eye. Our mark, Astrid said with pride. I stepped towards the mirror and examined it. It was a simple tracing and was no bigger than the palm of my hand. The scars from Liam's canines had white swirls surrounding each of them, giving my mark a majestic and elegant feel.

Liam, are you okay? I mind-linked him while strapping on my protective gear and making sure all my weapons were in check. Five throwing knives, two daggers, two vials of liquid Wolfsbane and a hidden knife camouflaged within the sleeve of my black suit in case I needed to escape from anything.

Yes, I am fine for now. I don't know what it is, but it seems like the possession of the Lunar pack and their companions have made them... numb. They can't feel pain and they don't tire. On the bright side, we've almost won this battle. The Eastern and Western borders are secured. Liam said relieved.

There's no way to save any of them, huh? I guess we do have to wipe out all these werewolves today... Forgive us Moon Goddess, I thought as I yanked the back door open. The sky held a humorous mockery with its fluffy white clouds, happy sun and bright blue sky. It was as though the Upper was trying to send peaceful vibes to us from above. I was just grateful it wasn't raining, I could see, run and hear better in the clear day anyways.

Kate! Are you out yet? Christy urgently mind-linked me. Yes, where do they need me most? I knelt beside a young blood-soaked werewolf to check her pulse. Nothing. Angrily, I stood up and began to start a light jog in the direction of the loudest screams. We need you at the Northern border. Liam's already helping Blake at the south. The Levagairs were after the Vekaldi tears. They know we are storing it somewhere in the pack house. Christy said.

&&&&&&&

I surveyed the ground as I sprinted towards the Northern border and felt relief wash over me. Almost all of the bloody corpses belonged to the possessed werewolves. None of their scents were familiar to me.

As I neared the battle on the Northern border, I noticed that a group of three possessed werewolves had broken past our defense. There is no way in hell I'm letting them close to the pack house, Astrid growled in my mind furiously. I chuckled to myself as I ran behind them silently. They hadn't noticed me yet.
