I grunted as I struggled to climb out of bed in the early morning. 5:30?! No time to shower, I was already late. I quickly checked my reflection in the mirror. Limp, dark brown hair, Dark brown eyes and dark under eye circles from the lack of sleep.
I ran to the kitchen from my room and thanks to my werewolf speed, I managed to make it there in two minutes. Damn this house was huge. I was sure to make my long strides light and silent. All hell would break loose if I woke anybody up.
I belonged to the Lunar Pack. It was one of the larger packs consisting of 290 wolves to be exact. Alpha Leo was known to be cruel, especially when he lost his temper. Let's just say that's why we remained the 15th largest pack in the world.
On the other hand, his mate, Luna Elise, was one of the nicest wolves I've ever met. This was rare for such a high ranking wolf. They treated us omegas like scum. Well, at least in this pack they do.
I've heard tales of the Moonstone Pack, the strongest pack in the world. They were vicious and merciless, and yet everyone in the pack was treated equally. Even the omegas! They were allowed to fight and no one thought they would only get in the way. I didn't believe those fantasies though. I mean, we're omegas, here to serve and only to serve the pack members... Right?
"Kate! Where the hell have you been?! Breakfast has to be on the table in half an hour-"
"Do you know how hard it is to cook for 90 wolves alone?!" I finished off mimicking her panicked tone. That's Sharon, one of my best friends. When an omega is born, they are assigned to serve one of three sections A, B or C.
Each section has between 90-100 wolves. We were assigned to the same section of the pack house. Section A. We were in charge of the maintenance and cooking of this part of the house. I quickly began to help cook and place the food on the table.
"Ah crap! Kate! Gamma James is coming and we didn't wash the dishes! You know the punishment if he sees the dirty dishes" Sharon shouted. "I am not getting beat up again!"
"He's early!" I cried, scrambling to the sink. I panicked as I used my werewolf speed and strength to clean the dishes. My throat felt like it was closing up on me as I remembered the last time we didn't have the dishes done. Just count your breaths, my wolf, Astrid, said calmly as I inhaled and exhaled deeply.
Crack. Sharon and I both froze. "Well, well. You useless pups are still washing the dishes, eh?" Gamma James taunted us, cracking his knuckles as he walked. "Both of you are in for a beating tonight, wasn't last time fun?"
"P-please, it was my fault I was late and-"
"Shut up! I'm not done talking yet! Because of that, no food for the both of you today. You." He spoke glaring at me, "I'm going to have fun with you tonight." Gamma James stormed off anger radiating off of him in waves.
"What were you thinking Kate?! You can't take on all his beatings alone! He'll kill you!" Sharon whispered lowly so he wouldn't hear us.
"Look is was my fault for being late, we would've had everything done! I can take it." I replied with a straight face. We can handle it, Astrid sounded confident. Gamma James was always cruel to the omegas, but the pack members were oblivious and the omegas were too terrified to tell. He was the one giving the punishments after all.
Sharon and I stood by the table quietly with our heads down as a sign of respect. I watched as the pack ate, laughed and talked to each other. Though they were eating the food I made and sitting at the table I polished, I've never felt more like an outsider. I longed for a day where I was able to sit with the pack and talk freely without the fear of getting slapped... or worse.
Kate! I can't choose what to wear, Luna Elise mind-linked me sounding very panicked. The Alpha hated when she was late.
Coming, I replied as I ran up to the master bedroom on the top floor. I opened the door and stared in awe at the room. I was still caught off guard at the size of this room. It was big enough to fit 20 people comfortably.
"Kate! Blue or Red?" Asked Luna Elise startling me out of my thoughts.
"Blue for sure! You'll look amazing!" I loved Luna Elise, she had always been so kind to me and even came to comfort me when I first learned about my parents' death. Rogues had come onto the territory and my parents were caught in the battle between the fighters and the rouges. Without any training, they didn't last very long.
"Thanks! I love you!" Luna Elise rushed to the bathroom to change. I loved that I was able to speak freely when I was in her presence.
I'm so glad today isn't laundry day, I thought to myself as Sharon and I started our daily chores. Cleaning up the dining room, scrubbing the floors, making the beds, vacuuming, cleaning the bathrooms and cooking meals became a daily ritual.
Laundry Day was just another day where pack members were able to take advantage of us. They always made sure to get extra stains and dirt on the clothes. Gamma James didn't allow us to use a laundry machine. He thought hand-washing the clothing would build "discipline", "responsibility" and "strength".
By the time we finished it was almost 9 pm. That's when the punishments took place. "Where's that omega mutt who works in Section A! She's to be punished." Asked Gamma James looking around wildly. His voice pierced through the soft murmurs of the pack members. All the werewolves in the room backed away instantly after seeing the feral look on his face.
"I-I'm right over- AH!" I cried as he gripped my hair. Gamma James dragged me down the cold cement steps leading to the basement.
The scent of blood and silver filled my nostrils as I was dragged further and further along the dim hall. I was roughly tossed into a cell and winced as the silver bars burned my arm. I heard the door lock shut as I closed my eyes and begged the moon goddess for mercy.
"Now where shall we start...?" Gamma James said with a sinister grin.
