Chapter 23- Surprise, Surprise 

 As I walked through the school halls, it made me realise how different my life is, how much it changed, how much my confidence had grown, and most importantly how much I now liked Ashley.

I walked past the cheerleaders and yet for once I didn’t feel threatened by them, to me they were just people, I’d seen their insecurities, they weren’t superior than me, not anymore.

As I was about to turn the corner, Marley barged past me, smashing her shoulder into me.

“Oh Lauren, its valentines tomorrow” Marley smirked, her posse giggling behind her, I raised my eyebrow.

“Lucky you know the days of the week, what would I do without you?” I said sarcastically rolling my eyes.

“Well you’d better watch your back, especially if you want to make valentines memorable” Marley smiled sweetly, although there was something sinister with her smile that made me uneasy.

“Whatever you’re planning Marley, I couldn’t care I’m happy, can’t you go bully someone else?” I asked her, I was fed up with her evil ways.

 “You’re my cheerleader, I’m entitled to bully you, it’s in the contract” Marley laughed, enabling her posse to giggle uneasy behind her.

“But I’m not a cheerleader” I stated, handing back the uniform, watching Marley’s expression turn to shock.

“You wanted revenge on Ashley; you didn’t need me to do that. Do what you want Marley, but leave me out of it, please” I sighed, barging past her.

“You want me to leave you out of it, fine, but just remember karma is a bitch” Marley screeched at me.

Okay, maybe I wasn’t superior to all the cheerleaders, Marley still terrified me at least that was one thing that hasn’t changed, everyone likes a bit of similarity.

I was relieved to enter class, some normality after that confrontation with Marley; luckily Steven was on hand to cheer me up.

“Hey Steven” I smiled sweetly, but he just sighed deeply.

“Are you scared about Valentine’s day” I waggled my eyebrows suggestively.

“Yeah, Ashley’s going to be so pissed at me” Steven shook his head, groaning.

“You can’t help how you feel” I said sympathetically, sure Ashley would go at ape after all it was his cousin.

“I wish I could” He muttered, just loud enough for me to hear.

“Just tell him, it’s the best all round” I patted his back, making him shift uncomfortably.

“You think?” He looked at me confused, I nodded my head vigorously.

“I know” I smiled sweetly, for the rest of the lesson, Steven was silent, and as soon as the bell went he was out of the room as fast as lightening.

As I was walking to lunch, I found Jas who relaxed immediately when she saw me, I could feel the cheerleader’s glaring at me, but ignored it.

“Lauren, can I ask you a massive question?”  Jas gave me a shaky smile; she was nervous about something; something big.

“Of course, what is it?” I smiled warmly at her, she began to sigh deeply.

“Could you buy Brad a valentine’s gift from me please?” She muttered so quickly, I almost didn’t catch it.

“Jas, you’re his girlfriend, aren’t you meant to buy it?” I laughed but she was serious.

“I don’t know what to get him, please I’ll love you forever” Jas smiled sweetly, although her hands were trembling.

“You have to love me anyway, we’re twins” I joked, even Jas laughed a little.

“Whatever, please Lauren?” Jas stared at me intently, I finally caved nodding, we spoke for a while before Jas turned to me.

“Uh, what is happening over there?” Jas pointed in a direction, I followed her hand to see a crowd of people gathered round, which only meant one thing- a fight!

Luckily, Ashley is extremely tall so I easily picked him out and surprise, surprise he was part of the fight, I rolled my eyes, storming into the middle. As I stood in front of Ashley, I realised he was fighting with…Steven?

“How could you do this to me?” Ashley shouted, his eyes clearly showing his anger.

“I can’t help how I feel” Stevens tone was almost desperate.

“Woah! What are you guys fighting over?” To say I was confused, would be a lie, I was more than baffled.

“Lauren leave it out” Ashley tried to move me, but I stood still, I could see a black-eye forming around Stevens eye, so Ashley had obviously punched him…brilliant!

“Why are you fighting over Candice, I know you’re protective over her Ashley, but Steven is your best-friend” I gave Ashley my sternest face, but he was still glaring at Steven.

“We aren’t fighting over Candice” Ashley hissed, I could see his jaw was clearly locked, he was angry yet I didn’t know why?

“Then who are you fighting over?” I looked between the two of them, with their staring match continuing.

“YOU” They shouted in unison.
