Damon watched the clock waiting for 5 to come. He wondered what he would even say to Kenny when he got to the shop. Damon sighed and kicked his feet up in the office chair.
Time passed slower than what it normally did for December weather. The days were shorter, of course, but that didn't take away from the long wait that swallowed Kenny whole. He watched as the sun began to fall on the sky before he slipped on his jacket and walked out to his car.
What will Damon say? Kenny thought as he got behind the wheel of his car. Will he like me as I do him? Or will he have moved on by now?
Damon glanced at his watch seemingly a thousand times before all his coworkers began heading for the door.
"Why'd you keep checking your watch, Damon? Got a hot date?"
"You could say that..." Damon muttered to himself.
"What was that?"
"Nothing Adam. I'll see you tomorrow." Damon smiled as all of them left. When there was no other human in sight he slouched into his seat and laid his head in his hands. What was he doing?
An annoying sound filled Damon's ears, the sound of the bell. Damon looked up to see Kenny standing at the front door. He was in a button down blue shirt, grey suspenders, and black jeans.
"Damon?" Kenny called out softly and shut the door behind him. The bell jingled as the door shut, "you here?"
Damon stood and dusted off his old, worn blue jeans and his greasy work shirt. In the mirror he caught a glimpse of the dirt on his cheek bones, hands, and forehead. Compared to Kenny, he looked like a mess.
"Damon?" Kenny called again, starting to lose hope the one he had come to see was even here.
"I'm in the back," Damon called looking away from the mirror.
Slowly, Kenny made his way to where Damon was standing. "Where is everyone?"
"They all went home," Damon said and grabbed his leather jacket from the coat rack.
Kenny felt a surge of panic enter his veins. They were alone. "Why'd..why'd you tell me to come at this time then..?"
"So we'd be alone." Damon slid his jacket over his shoulders. "Besides, taking someone out to dinner at four in the afternoon wouldn't quite work, would it?"
"Dinner?" Kenny's voice showed his bewilderment.
"Yeah, dinner. You said I had a shot so I'm taking it." Damon smiled.
Kenny blushed softly and looked down slightly, "I don't know what to say..."
"Say you'll wait for me to get ready and then you'll let me take you out to dinner?"
"Okay." Kenny looked into Damon's soul-searching green eyes, "I'll wait."
