Damon went back to work the next day even though Bobby had told him to take a couple weeks off. Working was the only thing left to keep his mind from venturing into its dark thoughts. Bobby frowned when he walked through the door and pointed at the desk, signalling he would be doing paper work today. Why wouldn't Bobby just let him work on a car? He opened his mouth to protest, but Bobby shook his head. Damon rolled his eyes before he walked to the desk and sat down. His eyes fell on the seemingly never ending piles of papers that needed to be worked on. He shook his head and grabbed the first paper feeling as though it would become a long day.

Damon worked tirelessly at the never ending pile and listened to Bobby try to teach Adam the ropes. It brought a small smile to his face hearing Adam fail so bad at simple things.

The bell rang at the front of the shop and Damon's head shot up to look. For a moment, he could have swore Kenny had walked through the door. He felt his heart sink in sorrow when he saw it was just the delivery guy dropping off some parts for the shop. He waved at Damon and Damon ignored him. He wasn't Kenny... His ears still made him listen to the conversation, however.

"Can you stay here while I run to the back for a second?" Bobby asked raising an eyebrow. "Adam isn't very great with cars and I think he needs help finishing this quick."

"Yea." The guy with black hair and brown eyes smiled, "I'll wait."

Damon hit the table with his knee, almost spilling his coffee. The ring came back to his mind and stayed, even when he fixed everything on his desk. "Just focus on paperwork..." Damon muttered to himself.

After a few wondering looks and Bobby signing and paying for the package, the delivery boy motioned to Damon. He couldn't quite hear the words, but he saw Bobby shaking his head. Damon pulled his left hand onto the desk and began to play with his ring. A small, "oh.." was heard from the delivery boy before he left the shop. Bobby glanced over and simply shook his head, though the sorrow in his eyes was prominent.

Before he could come up with a sentence to ask what they had talked about, Bobby spoke. "Don't fight with me this time," he laid a hand on Damon's shoulder, "go back to wherever you've been staying at and go get some rest for a while. Get out of public eye for a bit.."

"But I'm fit to work," Damon snapped his left hand hitting the desk in protest, "I'd rather be here then moping in my feelings."

"With that still on your finger," Bobby motioned to the ring, "you're not fit to be back in my shop." Bobby's voice was stern. "As much as you hid your emotions from your father, you still can't hide them from me. You're not alright, boy.."

Damon looked down, not wanting to confirm or deny the accusations. "Just let me work, Bobby... It's the only way I don't think about him.."

Bobby sighed and patted Damon's back, "all I'm asking is you go home until you get back to being okay on your own.." Damon looked at Bobby to protest, but Bobby waved his hand at him. "I can see how much you miss him in your eyes. When the delivery boy said those two words I thought you were going to knock everything off the table." Bobby rested his hand on Damon's shoulder, "go home until you feel a little better."

Damon nodded, finally agreeing. "I don't like it.." Damon muttered, "but alright. I'll go home."

Bobby smiled, "good. And don't come back until you're feeling better."

Damon left the shop and sat down in his car and turned on the ignition. The sound of the purring engine was soon masked with the sound of a song. A song that sounded very familiar.

So long to all my friends
Everyone of them met tragic ends
With every passing day
I'd be lying if I didn't say
That I miss them all tonight
And if they only knew what I would say

Damon tried to shake away the feeling and drove slowly towards the highway. It would be the fastest way to get back to the Hotel he was staying at.

If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
One day I'll lose this fight
As we fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright

His ring clicked against the wheel. With every small tap he remembered Kenny. He remembered how Kenny danced in the forest. How Kenny always had the light burning behind his eyes no matter what. He always had something to wait for.

Be strong and hold my hand
Time-it comes for us, you'll understand
We'll say goodbye today
And I'm sorry how it ends this way
If you promise not to cry
Then I'll tell you just what I would say

Damon gripped his steering wheel a little harder. What had Kenny been waiting for? Was there ever just one thing? Damon sank deeper and deeper into his thoughts. Kenny's fear in his eyes when Damon had to leave the room. He should have stayed. He should have been there when Kenny passed.

If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes

Damon looked away from his hands. He hadn't even noticed his gaze had fallen from the road. He jerked the steering wheel to get back into his own lane, flipping the car instead.

I'll fail and lose this fight
Never fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright

The light behind your eyes
The light behind your

Damon's hands gripped for something to grab in the panic.

Sometimes we must grow stronger and
You can be stronger when I'm gone
When I'm here, no longer
You must be stronger and

The car jolted before it stopped, finally setting off Damon's air bag. The sudden impact brought darkness. Damon was losing his grip to reality as the blackness began engulfing him and the song became more of a distant sound.

If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
I failed and lost this fight
Never fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright

The song was the last thing Damon heard before everything turned black.
