Damon awoke to his alarm blaring though his room and Kenny stirring to the sound. A groan left his lips as he switched it off and sat up; His feet swung off the corner of the bed and grabbed his work clothes from the dresser. The work clothes were as plain as ever as Damon slipped them on and rolled up the sleeves to the shirt and looked in the mirror. His hair was a mess.
"Damon?" Kenny's voice was soft and barely drew Damon's attention. "Is that you?"
"Who else would it be?" Damon smiled and leaned down, kissing Kenny's cheek. Instinctively, he crouched and wrapped Kenny in a hug, "I think this is the first time you've actually woke up before I went off to work."
"You can't stay any longer?" Kenny's voice was laced with sleep. His arms snaked around Damon's neck and pulled him even closer. "Even a few minutes?"
"If I stay any later I'm gonna be late, baby.." Damon hugged Kenny tightly, "go back to sleep. I'll see you at lunch."
"I'll wait for your lunch break then." Kenny smiled softly, his eyes now shut, heavy with sleep.
Damon kissed Kenny's cheek softly before he tucked the covers around him. "I love you." His voice was soft as he stood up.
Kenny hummed in agreement and rolled over, sleep already wrapping its arms around him and pulling him back into a dream.
Damon got into his car and started the revving engine. The radio kicked up and played a song he thought he knew through the car:
So long to all my friends
Everyone of them met tragic ends
With every passing day
I'd be lying if I didn't say
That I miss them all tonight
And if they only knew what I would say
If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
One day I'll lose this fight
As we fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as brightWas this My Chemical Romance? Damon shrugged, it worked to drive with him to work. Not like there would be any thing better on the radio in the morning.
Be strong and hold my hand
Time-it comes for us, you'll understand
We'll say goodbye today
And I'm sorry how it ends this way
If you promise not to cry
Then I'll tell you just what I would say
If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
I'll fail and lose this fight
Never fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as bright
The light behind your eyes
The light behind yourDamon pulled into the parking lot of his work place and parked the car. He felt something relative to dread and fear fill his chest. Why? He looked around, slightly panicked. It was still just the empty parking lot minus his and Bobby's cars. No one was really here yet. Yet, he still felt something terrible was going to happen.
Sometimes we must grow stronger and
You can be stronger when I'm gone
When I'm here, no longer
You must be stronger and
If I could be with you tonight
I would sing you to sleep
Never let them take the light behind your eyes
I failed and lost this fight
Never fade in the dark
Just remember you will always burn as brightDamon couldn't stand to listen to the song any more, and flipped off the radio. He couldn't shake the feeling like something was going to happen, even when he stepped into the seemingly empty shop.
"Hey, boy." Bobby said from behind the desk. Damon assumed he was going over Adam's work from yesterday, making sure he did it right. "I think this is the first time you've ever been late." Bobby chuckled.
