Once Damon was released from the hospital, every thing went back to normal. The two living together in harmony, there was a pattern to live by. Every day at five o'clock, Kenny would make his way to Damon's work and ring the bell that was attached to the door. Damon began to like the bell when it rang, it meant Kenny was there. The two would head home and eat dinner together before they would cuddle on the couch until they decided it was a good time for bed. They wouldn't move from the others side when they laid together, always worried they would lose the other if they let them slip from their arms. Kenny had even started getting Damon to go to church with him on Sundays. It was great, perfect even.
Until Damon started having to work over time.
"Bobby needs me to start staying late to work on the cars." Damon said at the dinner table, his fork balancing between his middle and pointer finger. "It's the only way we're going to keep profits up and keep the cars going in and out of the shop."
"Doesn't stop me from wanting to keep you coming home..." Kenny said and stood up putting his plate in the sink. He leaned against the counter, "I just don't see why any of the others can't stay after as much as you're being asked to. Maybe switch off with them.."
"Bobby doesn't trust anyone to work on those cars alone but me and him, Kenny." Damon sighed and walked up behind Kenny, wrapping his arms around him, "even if I did enlist in a partner I would be too busy watching to make sure he's doing the right thing."
Kenny shook his head, "I just don't want you being away any longer than you have to be.."
"I know, baby..." Damon muttered and laid his head softly on Kenny's shoulder. "We'll figure it out."
"I know we will.." Kenny muttered and pressed his body against Damon. "I just want to enjoy you while I have you right now.."
"Not tonight." Damon said plainly and removed his arms from around Kenny's waist. "I start working till possibly eight tomorrow."
"Tomorrow?!" Kenny snapped turning around, "you think that might have been a vital detail to add earlier?"
"How much earlier?" Damon growled back, "I found out today." Damon sighed and tried to calm down his anger, "look. I'm not happy about all of this either."
"Really?" Kenny shook his head and muttered under his breath, "I bet you didn't fight Bobby too hard about it."
"Don't talk like he owns me, Kenny." Damon growled and felt his fists clench out of sheer instinct. "Nobody owns me."
Kenny rolled his eyes, "whatever.. I'm going to sleep." He walked towards the bedroom only for his wrist to be caught in a tight grip that pulled him back to where he was standing. Kenny gasped at the sudden jolt of pain. "Just.. Let me go." Kenny muttered, looking at Damon.
"I love you." Damon said, his voice hoarse. He still didn't like saying the words, admitting his feelings.
Kenny only shook his head, "I just want to go lie down." Slowly, he placed his free hand on Damon's chest, "I just need a minute to think about every thing."
"Think about what?" Damon asked moving his grip from Kenny's wrist to his hips, "you're going to overthink everything."
"Like I always do." Kenny said plainly and patted Damon's chest. "Now I'm going to go lay down."
"You know if it's something urgent I'll come home right away." Damon said and kissed Kenny slowly. "No matter what kind of urgent.." Damon muttered against Kenny's dry lips.
"I'm sure I'll be able to wait until you get home, Damon." Kenny smiled and wrapped his arms around Damon, pulling him into a hug.
"Yea. You wait for me." Damon smiled and spun Kenny, his feet sweeping just above the ground.
"I'll wait for you," Kenny buried his face into Damon's shoulders, "even if I have to wait forever...."
Damon set Kenny back on his feet and kissed him slowly. Savoring the taste of dinner still left on his lips. Kenny pulled away first and his eyelids fluttered open to look at Damon. "I love you too."
