Chapter 17: Tricky Little Thing

RICK'S P.O.V. I followed Josh out into the hallway. He seemed extra calm, and the fact that he broke a lamp over Kate leaving him is ridiculous. Josh gently closed the door and let out a huge sigh.

"Listen, I understand that Kate left me, but in time she'll realize that she still loves me. So it be best for the both of us if you just break up with her now." Josh said crossing his arms and leaning against the wall.

"Why would she go back to you?" I stated like it was a rhetorical question.

"Because she chose me over you."

"But she's with me now."

"Ok, writer monkey, just listen to me...stay away. You don't mean anything to her, she just wants you for your money. And you know I was going to save you this harm, but while you two were together she's secretly been screwing me, so..."

"Liar."

"Why don't you go ask her."

"No."

"She was just using you."

I then launched towards Josh and punched him right in the jaw. Josh didn't fall to the ground, but rebounded back up and strikes me in the shoulder. We collided with each other and tumbled on the floor for a while. We each threw a few punches. I heard a crack in my nose and a crack in his arm. It wasn't long until we were pulled apart from each other and taken to be examined. I worried about Kate because before I left I told her that I would be right back. She'll think I left, she'll think that I left her because of her problems and her past. Josh and I weren't allowed to see Kate because she was what we were fighting about in the first place. I was being taken to a room far away from Josh and Kate, to be treated for my nose. I remembered the way we had come and was thinking about pulling away and telling Kate that I would never leave her.

"I'm excuse me?" I groaned, "but when am I going to be able to see Kate again?"

"By tomorrow afternoon," the nurse replied, "So we can give everything some time to cool down."

"No, I need to see her now, please."

"Sir we need to fix your nose."

"That can wait."

"Sir-"

"No you don't understand, she needs to know that I won't just leave her hanging." I pulled away from the nurse and began sprinting in the opposite direction, back to Kate's room. I decided to take the stairs instead of the elevator. It would be quicker. Kate would have expected me to return about 5 minutes ago. I wouldn't be surprised if she was crying right now. She's been through so much lately and right now I hope to God there's still a chance for us. I need to tell he something that's been digging at me for quite sometime. I wouldn't be surprised if she left me after I tell her. But why focus on the future when you see something great forming in the present. I reached her door hearing my name being called over the monitor to come have me retrieved. I rushed inside and locked the room. I turned and saw Kate in a fetal position silently crying. I stumbled over and grabbed her hands, startling her. She sat up, and I saw the multiple streaks of tears that had recently made themselves known.

"I- I thought you left me," Kate whispered her bottom lip shaking, "What the hell happened?"

"I would never leave you. But you need to listen. Ok?" I begged hoping to tell her my side and why I didn't come back before I would get taken.

"Ok." She replied.

"Josh attacked me, he um...he said that you still loved him and that while we were together for that short time, you would still run off with him. We began to struggle and I broke his arm and he broke my nose. I was trying to get back to you, when they took me away from you. And now they're coming to get me, so I have to go, but it's only for awhile ok?"

"No, please don't leave me, please." Tears once again began to flow from her eyelids.

"I have too, they won't let me stay here."

"Please, I need you, I can't do this without you."

"Yes you can, and I'll only be gone for a day or two, and then I'll be right by your side again."

Kate was about to speak when someone unlocked her door and found me. They were security guards two. They pulled me away from Kate and tried to haul me out of the door.

"No let him go!" Kate screamed.

They ignored her and pulled me away slamming her door shut.

I was handcuffed for a reason unbeknownst to me and taken down two stories down and placed in a solemn room. There I waited for a few hours to be examined and when they finally came they were rude and just cracked it back and placed a tiny cast, and sent me on my way.

When I tried to walk past Kate's room I saw security guards outside of it. I'm not dangerous. I walked by and hurried home and just waited, waited until I could go back to Kate. The doctor said that Josh was suspended for a week, so I couldn't see Kate for a week.
But I never told Kate that I couldn't see her for a week.

KATE'S P.O.V. Rick left, he said he wouldn't and he left. I know that he's going to come back so I can wait a day or two right? Maybe? No, I need Rick.

After two days passed I just gave up. If he wanted to come back he would've. A nurse came in and came in with a new food tray and picked up the one that I had for breakfast. I had put the lid on it. She and I had become acquaintances so she cared about me and lifted up the lid. She saw that there was still a full plate of food. I had not touched it and I didn't plan on touching this new one either.

" you need to eat Kate." She said.

"No, I will if you get me Rick." I retorted.

"I can't dear, he'll be back next week."

"NEXT WEEK! Why?"

"Our Doctor got suspended for a week and it would only be fair if Rick got the same punishment."

"Fine, then don't expect me to eat."

"I'm sorry to hear that." The nurse sulked and then left.

Sorry for not updating in a while I've been STRESSED but I'm back for now 😜
