I turned over on my bed after hearing my phone vibrate against the hard surface of my bedside table, and brought the phone over to me.
When I saw Alex's name flash up on the screen, I began to doubt whether I should answer or not. I wasn't in the best of moods after Gaby's appearance today, and I was still tired from work.
By the third ring however, I gave in and slid the answer icon across my screen, bringing my phone to my ear.
"Hi." I answered.
"Hey," He seems happy. At least one of us is right now. "Sorry, were you asleep?"
"No, I was in bed though," I reply. "How are you?"
"All the better for hearing your voice," Usually something like that would put a smile on my face, but Gaby's words kept ringing through my mind. Only she could make me feel so incredibly crap about myself and lonely within minutes. "Are you okay?"
"What makes you ask that?" It was like he was psychic or something.
"Just..." He said. I could tell I was bringing him down as well.
"Ignore me," I spoke, sitting up in my bed now. "How's Berlin?"
"I only just got into the hotel, thinking about going to sleep now but wanted to chat to you first," It sounded like he just sat himself down on his hotel bed as he spoke to me. "Kinda glad I called now."
"Why?"
"Cause I can talk to you until you tell me what's wrong."
"How do you always know when something's wrong?" I ask. "You've literally known me properly less than a week."
"You're such a personality that when you're down, I miss you." It was almost poetic. "So, come on, boyfriend to girlfriend."
"Ah, still very optimistic about that, aren't ya?" At least that made me smile slightly, looking down to my lap.
"Very, I mean we're meant to be." He teases. "So, what's wrong?"
I pause for a few seconds, going through the pros and cons of telling Alex about Gaby. On one had, I didn't want to tell him how horrible my step-sister is, mainly because it'll probably sadden him. I mean, I've told him snippets, but not the full story.
But on the other hand... I really needed to talk to someone.
"It's just," I paused again. "My step-sister."
"What's happened?" I could tell he was concerned by his tone of voice.
"She just came over and wanted a fight, that's all." I tell him. "My step-brother Logan was here though, so it wasn't as bad like if I was on my own with her."
"Are you okay now?" His voice quickening with worry made me smile again. He was too cute for words.
"I'm fine now," I smile again. "All the better for talking with you." I mimic his words from earlier.
"You do know that you don't need to hide stuff like that from me," He said. "You're not gonna scare me away or anything like that because you think your family is bonkers."
"My family is bonkers though," I replied. "You have no idea."
"Well then, you would definitely change your mind if you meet my family, they're like on a whole new level of crazy." He paused for a few short seconds. "Although I think you'd like my cousin Grayson and my Aunt Holly."
"Is that an invitation?" A small flutter went off within my abdomen.
"It can be," I could tell he was smiling. He was a very smiley person. Heck, since he turned up, even I've become a ridiculous smiley person! "I think they'll love you too."
"Well, you'd better hurry up back to England again then so you can introduce us."
"Believe me; I'm already planning our next date."
"Oh really?" I leaned back against my headboard, crossing my ankles. "Please indulge me on the details."
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"Because Miss Perfect, it is a secret." I could tell he was massively proud of himself in that moment in time.
"At least tell me what it'll involve so that Jules can plan my next outfit," I tell him, causing him to laugh. "Seriously, I am awful at stuff like that."
"You'll find out in a week." Was all he replied to my plea for information.
The next ten minutes was spent with Alex telling me about his flight, and how Poppy cried out of fear about going on a plane even though she had been on plenty in her short 4 years of age.
"Emma was asking when you both were coming back, she misses you two already," I tell him. "Maybe you can call tomorrow? I think she wants to speak to Poppy."
"Poppy says she misses Emma too," He said. "And I think that needs to happen or both little girls will be very angry at us adults."
"Definitely," A small laugh escapes my lips. "I should be going to bed then, I have to be up early for the school run."
"I should let you go," He spoke. "Even though the selfish part of me wants to keep you up just to keep on hearing your voice all night."
"You old charmer you." I bit onto my bottom lip, looking up to the clock opposite me on the wall which read 9pm. Sure, it was considerably early especially since I would usually head off to bed 12am every night, but the 'fight' with Gaby pissed me off so much that sleep was the only cure for my awful mood. However the long talk with Alex did manage to clear up my mood slightly. "Good night Mr Darkbloom."
"Goodnight Miss Perfect," He replied. "But before you go."
"Yes?"
"Whatever your step-sister said to you to upset you," He said. "Just remember that it will take a shed load of nonsense for me to leave you alone."
"You think most of the things you say are romantic, but majority of them can be taken as very creepy."
"You know what I mean!" We both ended up bursting into laughter, and my mood had now completely cleared up. Again I was happy, like Gaby hadn't even showed up that night.
My mind was confused as to how this man could cheer me up like this, but I ignored the confusion and continued to be happy.
"I'll be going to bed knowing my stalker will always be there for me." I tease, causing him to laugh again. "Talk to you tomorrow Alex."
"Definitely, goodnight again."
