-AVA-
Grayson sat on the single sofa seat next to the TV, having found Logan's copy of Guardians of the Galaxy which he accidentally left the last time he was here. He devoured the pizza as Alex and I sat on the big sofa, my legs over his lap as we watched also.
"Where's Emma?" He asks.
"I put her to bed." I replied softly, still focusing on the TV in front of me. What? Chris Pratt was on the TV! Of course I was going to be staring at it!
"Sad, cause I kinda need a hug." He sighs lightly, almost as if he was trying to hide his disappointment from me.
I now look over to him, wondering about the situation with his family. I lean over and take his hand into mine, entwining my fingers with his, playing with his middle finger ring on his right hand.
"Are you sure you're going to be okay with your family?" I didn't mean to pry. I just need to know if he was okay.
"What do you mean?" He looks at me, confused.
"You have to give them time, Alex," I lean my head back down on his shoulder. "But I don't want you to mess the relationship you have with your family just because of me."
"They're the ones messing it up, Ava," He repeats his words from earlier again. "Really, Ava, even if it was something major," He sighs again, smiling at me. "You make it all better."
"Promise that if it's serious, you'll tell me?" I ask. He uses his hand to reach over and tuck another strand of my hair behind my ear.
"Promise, baby," Again, his words give me relief. "Now, enough about me," He stands up from the sofa, walking towards the door. "I'm going to get a drink."
"Ooh, cola can for me please." I call after him, knowing he heard my order when he responds with a hearty laugh at my randomness.
"Get us one as well!"
"Get it yourself, Gray!"
"Damn it," Grayson huffs in defeat, looking towards me. "He was a lot nicer to me when we were kids."
I giggle in response as Grayson stood up and walked towards Alex's voice, finding the kitchen.
It was then when I hear footsteps gently tiptoe down the stairs, and a huge gasp leading to the footsteps quickening, and Alex laughing.
"What are you doing up?!" Alex exclaims as I stand up from my seat, wrapping my arms around myself as I walk towards the kitchen seeing Alex holding Emma, and Grayson smiling and waving at Emma as he stood behind him. "It's quite late, you know."
"I thought I heard your voice!" She exclaims back happily.
"Well I'm kinda glad you did come down, I was telling Mummy I wanted a famous Emma hug." His words were only replied with a huge hug from Emma as she wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her cheek down on his shoulder, causing him to smile as he hugged her back. "Thank you. I needed that today." He said as she pulled away again. "Hey Emma, meet my cousin - Grayson."
"Hi Grayson!" Emma exclaims, waving both of her hands to him. "My favourite movie is the Christmas movie you did!"
"Oh really, that's great!" Grayson beamed proudly.
"Missy," I spoke up, causing them all to look at me. "It really is late, and you have nursery tomorrow."
"But Mummy," Emma began whining, causing both boys to laugh. "I wanna stay with Alex and Grayson!"
"How about this?" Alex spoke. "I read you your favourite bed time story again, and tomorrow we can hang out?"
"Really?" Emma gasps.
"I'll pick you up from nursery with Mummy." Emma gasps again, nodding excitedly. "And I can bring Poppy over for you to hang out with tomorrow."
"I'm so excited!" Emma exclaims, clapping her hands together which made us laugh again.
"You'll be alright down here Gray?" Alex asks, his cousin nodding.
"Yeah, I'll just finish up the movie and wait for you two." He replied.
I followed them up there, watching Alex playfully drop Emma onto her bed full of cushions, causing her to giggle. I climbed onto one side of Emma as Alex sat down on the other side of Emma, bringing out the Snow White book from under her pillow he placed there the night before when this exact same scenario played out as well.
Emma adores Alex reading her Snow White. She had become infatuated with both the story and Alex's story telling.
Watching both of them interact as Alex read the words off the book made me smile. Instead of looking at Emma and the book, I just watch him. The way his dimples show deep when he genuinely smiles, when his eyes light up when he watches Emma laugh knowing he was the one who made her happy, and when his voice slowly drowns out as he realises Emma getting sleepier and sleepier.
She was already out before the end of the book, fast asleep with her head on her pillow, hugging onto Rory the teddy lion.
We both gently stand up from the bed, and Alex does the honours by tucking her in properly.
I lean down and gently plant a kiss on Emma's head, and we both leave, turning the light off before Alex slowly closes the door behind us. I stand behind him, my arms folded before he turns to look at me, a small smile playing on his lips.
"What?" He asks.
"I really do love you, you do know that right?" I really didn't want this to be a casual thing that could end anytime. I have to make him know that, however desperate it sounded.
"And I love you," His words give massive relief. "You and Emma, to the ends of the world and back again."
"How did I get so lucky?" I ask, biting my bottom lip, still remembering his words about what he thinks about my lip biting. He mimics me by biting his bottom lip as well, and suddenly I realise what he means. "We need to stop that, Emma's only in that room there."
"Yes," He agrees, before walking forward, causing me to step back a few steps. "Doesn't mean I have to stop the scenario going through my head though, does it?"
"You're naughty," I laugh as quietly as I could as I wrap my arms around his neck. "I like it."
"Hmm," He smirks, obviously coming up with something he knew was going to make me laugh, as usual. "Shall we go and Netflix and chill then?"
"Stop." My arms drop and I take his hand into mine, still a grin across my face. "We should get back to your cousin downstairs."
"Oh yeah, I keep forgetting he's here." Clearly we Perfect girls take up his mind that much.
