I watched him, not knowing what to say or do.
"I'm so sorry.." I say letting out a sigh and hugging him.
"What if I-" Alfie began but I cut him off
"Don't think like that"
-
It's been a long day, we're going home, Alfie is coming back for his first chemo on Monday, this is hard for us both.
Late that evening I knocked on peris door to collect Emmy, while Alfie packed his bag at the hospital,
"Hey is everything ok!" She opened the door, I'd held it in long enough I just let it all out and ran into her arms and cried my heart out.
"His cancers back!" I cried
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry ni" she let me go and pushed the pram over,
"I don't know how we're going to do this!"
"If you ever need he'll with Emmy, let me know" I smiled through my tears at peri who is being so supportive.
I'd left peris house and walked to collect Alfie, he was sat on the bench outside looking behind him, he looked sad
"Hey.." I pushed the pram over to him his sadness faded and he got up and gave me a hug.
"Emmy!" He picked up the newborn and kissed her forehead. What I'd do to see that moment again and again.
"You ready to go?" I asked as he placed the baby back down and wrapped his arm around my waist.
"I can't die nico" he quickly said.
"And you- you won't" I said not sounding convinced even though that's what I'd want.
"He looked down at the wide awake baby in the pram.
"She's smiling at you" I told him
He smiled back.
I don't want moments like this to ever end, Alfie can't die...
