*David's POV *
I got up before dawn to go check on Emma, sure she'd kicked him out on his ass herself given the way she treated Neal after he left her. I cracked the door open quietly, hoping she had gotten some sleep after getting closure. But when I looked inside I felt anger building inside me instantly.
He was wrapped around her, both of them fast asleep with the baby in their arms. Their hands were entwined along with everything else, his face cuddled into her neck as they slept peacefully. It was also quite obvious that they'd done more than sleep, their clothes scattered and their bodies bare as far as I could tell.
"Emma!" I yelled, storming in before I could stop myself and making them startle awake. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Sleeping," she mumbled, settling back into his arms as she tried to comfort the now screaming baby. "Or I was. Now you got Rebecca all worked up. Why are you yelling so early?"
"Because I didn't think you'd be this stupid!" I snapped, then realizing that I'd upset the baby and lowering my voice. "He left you, Emma, and you made it very clear with Neal that that was unforgivable. So I'll repeat myself, what the hell are you doing?"
"David," she snapped right back, both of them now sitting up, his arm around her waist and the baby on her chest as she cried. "He is not Neal, and now is not the time. But you've woken up our daughter so she needs to eat, which means you need to go. We'll talk later."
I tried to argue but she'd moved on, getting ready to feed the baby. I huffed and stormed back out, still boiling with rage.
*Emma's POV *
David stormed out and slammed the door, making Rebecca scream even louder. I shook my head and sighed, carefully moving her to cradle her to my chest.
"Oh, I know, baby girl, I know. Just hold on," I moved the sheet just a bit and she quickly latched onto me, her eyes closed as her screaming turned to a happy suckling noise. "There you go, all better, huh? You just have to trust mommy will always take care of you."
"God, she's so perfect," Killian said quietly, going to touch her but hesitating until I took his hand and put it on her stomach. He looked up at me and I gave him a small smile before he looked back at her. "She's so small, though. Is she alright?"
"She will be," I assured him, keeping my hand on his and leaning my head on his chest as his arm tightened around me. "She just came early because of the stress, but she'll get stronger with time. It helps that she's such a good eater."
"Good," he relaxed a bit, kissing my forehead. Rebecca soon fell back to sleep and I moved her to her bassinet, pulling him down to lean on his chest as he laid on his side with his arms around me. "Your father is right, you know. What I did was unforgivable, you shouldn't have taken me back."
"Too bad," I sighed, scooting closer so my side was against his chest and kissing his neck softly. "Doing anything but just trying to move on would only make us both miserable and complicate Becca's family even more. I said I forgive you and I do, so you and our family are just going to have to deal with it."
"You're far too good for me," he sighed, guilt clear in his voice as he squeezed me closer and leaned his forehead on my temple. "I love you so much, I don't know what I ever did to deserve this life."
"One of life's great mysteries," I teased him lightly, turning my head to press my lips to his for only a moment. "Now stop with all that guilt before I have to beat it out of you, you dork."
"No promises," he said but smirked a bit. "But you should go back to sleep. I know you must still be exhausted."
"I'm fine," I lied and avoided his eyes, hating the thought of waking up without him again. "But you can sleep if you want. God only knows what you've been doing for the last month."
