Another stressful day at school was finally over and done with. Only today it was worse, because I hadn't got very much sleep last night because of the strange feeling that had kept me awake; and if that wasn't bad enough, I do not look very attractive today. My hair was in a ponytail because I didn't have enough time to fix it, and I was wearing an old band t-shirt because I didn't get the chance to do the laundry last night. I just couldn't wait to get home and go to bed.
But then I remembered, I have to clean the house tonight before my mother visits tomorrow.
I groan out loud, feeling the strong urge to bang my head against my locker. I hated cleaning.. And when my mother visits my house. Because she doesn't just visit... She inspects the house.
That means I have to make everything look good so I can keep staying on my own.
"Kate," I hear Kyle call. He nears me as he passes people in the hallway, carrying his books and folders within his arms.
"Yeah?" I grumble.
"You almost ready? We have to be out of the house by 9:00,"
"I know, I know. I'm comin'." I shut my locker back up and sling my bag over my shoulder. Kyle and I are going out to the movies tonight with some friends, since it's Friday and all. We had to hurry to clean the house before we went to the movies so it'll be ready for stupid tomorrow. I really wasn't looking forward to that. I missed my mother, yes, but she's always doubting me. I wish that would change...
"You okay?" asks Kyle.
"Not really," I sigh. "Today was not fun and now I have to clean."
"Same here. Tonight should be fun though!" he tries to cheer. I grin and push past the glass doors and into the September air. It was starting to cool down now, and the trees were beginning to dull. I liked it much better in the fall, mostly because of Halloween. Call me average, but it's my favorite time of the year, and I'm brightly looking forward to it.
My boots scuff against the sidewalk leading to the student parking lot, where today we go to my car, since it was my turn to drive today. It's shining, red paint glistened brightly in the sun, making a sharp ray of light shine directly in my eyes. I squint harshly and ask myself why just stupid, little things like that are making me angry today. I was nothing but a ball of hate this evening, and I'm sure that will only get worse.
"Cheer up, Katey-Poo. You can take a nap and I'll clean, I'm okay with that."
"No, no, that's definitely not fair. I'll try to clean very fast so maybe I'll just get a little rest. But you're not cleaning the house by yourself, that's for sure." I point to him.
"Okay," he chuckles. "But if you change your mind-"
"Kyle, no. Shut up."
He laughs some more as I unlock the doors to my car, throwing our bags inside and climbing in tiresomely. School can really wear a person out...
=^=^=^=
We return home to the chilly house, only because we forgot to turn the air conditioning off.
Of course...
And not only did that add to my anger and frustration, but I found "accidents" left on the floor, thanks to my dear friend, Weebles. So you can only imagine the horrible, nightmare-of-a-scream I'm holding in at the moment. I have such an imperfect life, I swear it's too much to handle at times.
I'm just hoping it'll all get better...
"Alright, let's get to it," I grimace, tossing the rest of the napkins full of kitten poop in the garbage can. Kyle breaks out the vacuum cleaner after I put Weebles in my room, because he's terrified of the sweeper, and I make my way towards Kyle's room first.
I start to gather the dirty clothes together as they litter the floor, accompanied by many wrappers for Snickers. Kyle had an extreme obsession with Snickers bars...
I separate the garbage pile from the clothes pile and start to pick the rest up from the floor. After a while I was actually beginning to see the carpet, and I begin to feel a little better. Kyle's room was always the worst part.
Just as I grab the last wrapping of the candy, I was startled by the most unforgettable face a person could see. I almost jump backwards as the pictures stares up at me, with its cold, silvery-white eyes, and its fleshy grin.
What was that?
I let out a breath and try to reconnect myself. That really made me jump a little...
I bend down and pick it up, reading the caption, red in letters, spelling: GO TO SLEEP.
"Go to sleep..?" I mumble to myself, furrowing my brows as my eyes scan the picture more.
The hair was as pitch-black as the night, and his eyes outlined darkly with black rings. His smile was rather large, and I couldn't tell if it was painted on or what... But it made my skin crawl, only a little. I'll have to ask Kyle about it. I set it down on his computer desk so he wouldn't lose it, and finish up with the cleaning before I let him do his part on the vacuuming.
I head on to my room, where there wasn't too much to be done, when I hear the sweeper stop, and Kyle's door open.
"Kate?" I hear him call.
"Yeah?"
"What is this?"
I peek out of my door and onward to Kyle, who stands in the doorway, confusion clear in his brown eyes as he holds up the creepy picture I found in his room.
"I don't know, I found it in your room. I was gonna ask you,"
"Well, it's not mine, I don't think..."
"That's weird...." I say with an uneasy feeling. Eh, it's just a weird picture. We have friends over all the time, one of them probably left it in there; it shouldn't be something to worry about. I actually felt kind of stupid for feeling so unsure about it.
"Kate, it's all done!" I hear Kyle yell with excitement. "I'm takin' a shower! Be out in a minute,"
"Okay!" I smile.
I make a quick change of clothes before running out to the living room to make sure everything was in its place, and luckily, it was. I'm sure Mom would be happy with this outcome, because I know I am! This night is getting better by the minute, so I can't wait to get out of the house and have some fun!
If only this weird feeling that was invading me would vanish...
