Chapter 8:
(Harry's POV)
I went down the staircase suited up as the guests were dancing, the music was booming and the atmosphere was amazing. I over looked the room to see if everyone was getting along and saw how the majority of the factions were segregated apart from the humans who walking and dancing around everywhere. The werewolves kept to their corner, the vampires in another but no sign of the witches. I saw a frantic Niall approach me looking shocked and confused.
"You're not dressed? It's a party not a club" I said trying to lighten his mood over the beat of the music.
"We need to talk in private now" He said sounding worried.
"Later Niall, if you go and get changed, I'll listen" I said winking making him roll his eyes and leave to get ready. I went up the stairs, grabbing a drink from a passing waitress and decided to watch over the party from the balcony inbetween the staircases. It was a big room and every really fitted to the masquerade theme.
But the stress of it all had taken its toll on me, since breaking up with Ellie, the boys have tried to set me up on numerous dates but they never went further than a kiss on the cheek goodnight because I couldn't continue with them. It never felt right, even seeing all these beautiful women here today with plenty of choice but they weren't right, they were never her.
The next minute, a group of women and a few men were being directed into the ball room, leading in front of them was Ellie. She looked stunning: her hair was curled, and her dress was like a top and a long skirt, but it wasn't her outfit that was blowing me away, it was her. What was she doing here? And with the witches? Did she join them again? I out my drink down on the table next to me as I watched as the commentator for tonight made his presence known. I saw how Ellie flowed through the room, her expression powerful and her beauty I had missed. Even with the mask over her face, I could tell she was going grinning as she turned to her friend.
"Ladies and gentleman. Factions of the city. Welcome to the treaty party where everyone is an equal. We welcome Brody and his pack the werewolves. We also welcome Ellie and her coven of witches" he said as I walked down the stairs. She was the leader of the witches? That changes everything. I managed to reach the rest of the boys before the commentator carried on with his speech, pulling my mask down from my forehead over my eyes.
"And the hosts of tonight, Harry and his clan of vampires." he said making Ellie's eyes dart to my direction, our eyes focused on one and another trying to work out what the other was thinking. She slowly turned around back to the commentator and ignored me as if I was just some old familiar.
"So have fun tonight and no Fighting" the commentator said before fading off into the distance. I turned to see Niall rushing towards me, sorting out his tie.
"Harry I need to talk to you. It's about Ellie" He said sounding frazzled.
"If it's about the fact that Ellie is head witch, Ive just heard" I stated looking over at Ellie who was deep in conversation with that friend Laura I think her name was.
"I was just with her, well it was a couple of hours ago but she twisted my neck -" He said
"-she what?" I asked bit believing what I was hearing.
"That's not it, she said to tell the vampire's that the vampire's are not in control of the witches anymore and that they're taking their power back" He said whilst I watched Ellie. It was strange to hear that Ellie had said and done these things, especially to Niall. I watched her as she accepted a man's hand to dance from the werewolf pack.
"We'll see what she does" I said as I watched her laugh on the dance floor to the slow music about to finish.
"You're not going to retaliate?" Niall asked surprised by my actions.
"No we're not" I said before walking away from him and towards Ellie who parting from the werewolf.
"Harry" She said with a sharp intake of breath as if she was surprised to see me approach her.
"Can I have this dance?" I asked offering my hand as a slow song we were familiar came on. She reluctantly took it and I slide my other hand around her waist as her other free hand was placed on my shoulder. Her touch suddenly relaxed me and made me at peace for a short moment, in my head I shook it off and decided to speak and break the silence.
"So Niall told me you're head witch" I said making it out as if I hadn't just heard about it a few moments ago.
"Laura told me you're head vampire" She replied.
"Things changed" I commented looking around to check up on them.
"I can see that" She said gaining my attention back.
"So when did you become head witch?" I asked out of curiosity. Due to my witch not sensing her magic or even her, I was surprised to hear her be in control and be using her magic again. When we were dating, she tried to avoid magic and never really told me the reason behind it, I guess things really did change.
"Only recently" She replied.
"I'm sorry to hear about Helen. I swear to you Ellie it wasn't me who ordered the hex. I would never do that" I quickly said so she would know the truth.
"I don't want to talk about that now Harry, it's time to play tonight, not sort out business" She said letting go of my grasp to walk away, she turned around once she got so far and smiled before she carried on walking deeper into the shadows.
