Him Again

Chapter 24

Days, weeks, months, and even a year had passed and my relationship on Caleb was still standing strong. Part of me thinks doubtful because there was never a time when Caleb had exchanged an 'I love you' to me. Well, maybe I am just thinking too much negativity, right.

A couple of weeks ago was our high school graduation which means that it is time for opening a new chapter of the book of life called college. Hell yeah, the thought of escaping high school sent everyone who graduated an irreplaceable smile on their faces. After the event, Mrs. Evans had invited me and my parents to be a part of her congratulation party for both her son and me.

I am really thankful that everything that I had imagined went according to what I wanted it to be. Even though I can imagine how cool and sweet Caleb is as my boyfriend, there are times when all he did was keep silent, and sometimes he chooses to be alone.

Being in a relationship with him for about a year and a few months was really too good to be true. I've learned several stuffs about him as well as he knows things about me. We even shared several stuffs to be able to strengthen our relationship. As we walked towards the park, I spotted a book store. I grabbed Caleb's arm as we approached the said store.

"Hey Caleb, look....books." I smiled genuinely at the sight of different books. Last time I read books were months ago and now I am missing to have something to read.

"Well, of course, this is a bookstore." Caleb replied sarcastically as he rolled his eyes. I punched him playfully on his arm which he responded by an act of wincing.

"Wait over here, I guess I want to fetch for some new books. Last time I read was like forever and now I am kinda having a book-gasm with this sight." I said jokingly to him and he shooed me away to grab some books.

After about a few minutes of looking for books, I end up with nothing in hand. The books here are awful and some are even on my collection already. I went back to the spot where I left Caleb and noticed that he isn't standing there.

I scanned the whole room until I spotted Caleb holding several books in hand. He smiled at me as he waved the books to me. To my disappointment, the books aren't my type – comic books. "Are those for me?" I asked him curiously.

"Yes they are. You like them?" He asked as he raised a brow at me.

"You know I don't like comics, right? I mean haven't you already know that—" I cut off myself as realization hit me. "I'm so sorry. I just...forget it." I tried to grab the books from his hands but he never let go of it. I gave him a questioning look but he didn't budge. "Sorry okay...I just thought....you were...you wer—" He cut me off this time with a disappointing tone.

"Skylie?" He asked as he averted his gaze from mine. A look of pain and hurt was plastered on his façade which made me scooted closer at him to embrace him.

"You know what? Give me those. I like them now because they are from y—" I tried to brighten the mood but end up failing as he cut me off.

"Forget it. Okay, why don't we go to the park now?" He asked as he placed a blank expression on his face. I know I can read people's expression but this expression on his face is one of the exceptions. I nodded and he interlaced his hands on mine which made me sigh in relief. Geez, I hope everything will be fine now.

At this moment, we are sitting on an empty bench on the park watching the crimson sky as sunset approaches. His arm was laced on my shoulder holding me on place closer to him.
