I walked down the empty hallway before school started. To my surprise, my friend, Sadie, was already there. She was leaning against her locker looking at her phone.

"Sadie!" I yelled and started running over to her.

"Hey!" She yelled back.

Being the klutz I am, I tripped over my own feet and fell. "Whoa!" I exclaimed as I went down and my face hit the cold, hard tile. "Ugh..."

"Piper, are you alright?" Sadie came running to my rescue. "Piper?"

I pushed myself up on my arms and picked up my bag. I made it to my feet and brushed off my jeans. "Yeah, I'm good."

Sadie giggled. "That was funny."

"Thanks, your such a good friend." I said sarcastically. "This is the third time I've fallen today."

She snorted. "Third?"

"I fell down the stairs chasing Sam this morning and then I fell off my stool at breakfast." I nodded. "This is a good day."

"Wait, why was Sam at your house this morning?" Sadie asked smiling.

I shook my head. "No, no, no! It's not like that, Sade. He woke me up with kisses this morning because he didn't want me to be late picking him up to come to school."

"He woke you up by kissing you?!" Sadie freaked out. "Ohmigod, Piper! What is going on between you two?"

I sighed. "Sadie, stop."

She continued blabbing on. "Are you going out? Has he kissed you before? Where is he now? Do other people know? Oh, and-"

"Sadie!" I screamed. "Stop!" I paused. "We're not going out. The kisses meant nothing. He kisses me all the time. They're meaningless. Don't freak. Sam and I are best friends. You should know that."

She looked down. "Well, that's no fun."

I spotted Sam and his friends coming through the doors.

"There he is!" Sadie whispered and pointed.

"Way to make it obvious." I grumbled.

Sam came over and put his hand around my waist. "Hey."

"Hi." I smiled.

Sam looked at Sadie. "Oh, hey, Sarah."

"It's Sadie." She corrected.

"I know, I'm kidding!" Sam joked.

Sam's friend, Jaden, walked over and kissed Sadie. He put his arm around her. They've been going out for the past year.

Mark, Sam's other friend, hit Jaden's arm. "Gross, man."

"Shut up. Your just jealous because your girlfriend isn't here yet." Jaden replied.

Sadie giggled.

"At least I have a girlfriend, unlike Sam!" Mark shot back.

"Yeah, what's up with that?" Jaden said. "You can have any girl in this school, man, and you chose to be single. Why?"

Sam shrugged and glanced at me. "I don't know."

"He's waiting to ask out Piper." Mark whispered a little too loud.

Sam punched his arm. "Shut up!"

Sadie poked my arm. "Oo-Oo, Piper and Sam!"

"Stop!" I blushed.

Mark laughed. "You both obviously have a thing for each other."

"Just ask her out already, Sam!" Jaden yelled.

I swallowed. This just got awkward.

"I should go." Sam said then he walked away.

"Sorry, Piper, we tried." Jaden patted my head.

Mark nodded. "Maybe another day."

"But don't worry, he will come around." Jaden called.

Then they both disappeared down the hall.
