Here is today's useless fact.
Bet you didn't know that you burn more calories sleeping than you do watching television.
.
Sorry
.
"Alright Natsu, this is probably the most important lesson you'll ever learn from me." Lucy said waving her stick around.
"Is it eating? Because I'm hungry." Natsu mumbled.
"No! It's apologizing."
"... pass."
"No Natsu! You can't pass this; it's the most important lesson. You can get away with a lot of things and make a lot of people forgive you if you know how to apologize properly and that's what I'm going to teach you."
"I don't apologize."
"And you won't have to Natsu if you don't want to, but I want you to know how to do it. Besides if you ever make a girl angry, if you apologize a certain way she won't try and hurt you like I want to do all the time." Lucy said.
Natsu rolled his eyes and leaned on his stump, staring at her.
"Alright, so of course there's I'm sorry. It all depends on the tone of voice you use though and your facial expression. Now watch." Lucy said looking away.
She looked back at Natsu with the saddest expression he's ever seen from her; her lower lips was quivering as tears almost fell from her eyes. Natsu's eyes widened and he flinched, leaning up slowly.
"I'-I'm, I'm sorry."
His heart hurt for her and before he could remember that this was a lesson and that she didn't do anything to be sorry about Natsu was reacting.
"It's alright! It's alright! It's alright!"
"See how powerful that was Natsu?" Lucy said reverting back to normal.
She laughed and Natsu blinked slowly.
"Wow." Was all he responded.
"Now your turn to try. I'm sorry, with feelings though. You don't have to mean it, as long as it's believable you can get away with it. Try."
Natsu nodded, closing his eyes. He tried to look like Lucy did, like a kicked puppy, and reopened his eyes.
"I'm sorry."
"Your facial expression is good, but your voice is not convincing."
"My voice? How about this voice?" Natsu asked.
"Whiner."
"This one?"
"Whiner."
"This one?"
"Now you sound like a little girl, toughen up a bit."
"SHUT UP!"
...
"Whiner."
Natsu growled out loudly and Lucy laughed.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. This is supposed to be serious. Listen Natsu, in order to live along humans you need to know how to apologize. There are some mean ones out there and there are some who you absolutely cannot fight against."
"Why? Because I can't win?"
"I have no doubt in my mind that you won't win Natsu; my mother taught me though that there are places and people where you can fight and where you just have to stand there and accept it. You may like not like it Natsu, but one day you'll know what I'm talking about." She said.
"How do you know what your talking about?" Natsu asked.
Lucy gulped and sat down next to him, "alright Natsu. My Mother taught me everything I'm teaching you right now, just a little bit more strict and a lot less funny. I didn't understand what she was teaching me either and she told me exactly what I'm telling you, about the one day part. Well that one day finally came when an important person came over for dinner. Mother told me he was one of Father's business partners I believe. Well all throughout the dinner he kept on bragging and bragging about how much better his wife and his daughter was to me and Mother. I couldn't say anything and neither could Mother. At one point he started yelling at me for something I didn't do and I knew this was the situation my Mother taught me about. I knew if I started crying or if I made a scene and yelled back that my Father would get in trouble so I did what my mother taught me and apologized. When the dinner was over I cried in my Mother's arm and my Father he... he told me good job and rubbed my head." She whispered touching her own head.
Natsu reached out and hugged Lucy because that's exactly what he wanted to do at the moment.
"I would never let someone who wasn't me yell at you." Natsu told her.
"That wasn't the point of the story Natsu, the point was that sometimes even if it isn't right, you have to take a yelling and apologize for things you didn't do. If I didn't apologize then who knows what would have happened to my Father? Because I did though nothing happened. We might get into a situation when we travel where you'll have to apologize for something completely stupid, if you don't then something bad might happen. Think of it that way Natsu. If I get capture because a guy bumped into you and said you bumped into him, would you apologize so I'd be let free?"
Natsu blinked, "if I couldn't beat him up, then yeah I'd lie."
"See? So some apologizes can be honest while others are filled with lies. Both are fine... er, I guess. I mean, it just depends on the situation you're in! So let's go back to apologizing!"
Natsu nodded and closed his eyes. He looked at Lucy with hurtful eyes, quivering his bottom lip slightly as his voice nearly shattered when he said, "I'm sorry."
Lucy started crying. Natsu's eyes widened and he shook her shoulders.
"Lucy?! What happened?!" He yelled, panicking.
"That- that was beautiful. Good job Natsu, A plus!" Lucy cheered.
"Really?"
"Yeah, it was perfect! That even beat mine, job well done. So you got the ultimate apology down, and you already now how to rude apologize, let's work on some simple ones though because that one should only be saved for the specialist and dire of occasions."
By the time Lucy was done with him Natsu could fit into the human world. He knew how to speak, read, write, he knew his numbers, how to use math at a basic level, his manners, how to eat, how to carry a lady, how to apologize. These were the basic traits a human needed to know to fit in... uh oh. Lucy only forgot one thing to teach her student. How to use money.
Well of course they didn't use money out here in the forest but once the two of them were on their own traveling then Natsu would have to learn it. They had time though. Lucy was going to be with him so she chose to save that lesson for another day. Until then she was proud of her student and proud of herself as a teacher.
"Good job Natsu." Lucy smiled rubbing his head.
Natsu grinned up at her, "thanks Lucy."
