Natsu blinked, staring up at the sky and wondering why it was so quiet. Usually he'd be the one making noise, but he wasn't doing so right now. It shouldn't have been this quiet though, his partner in crime should have been saying something and yet she wasn't. Natsu looked down and spotted his teacher sitting underneath a tree, a book in her lap. So that's what she was doing, reading... uh oh.

If Lucy was reading then that only meant one thing...

"NOOOOOO!" Natsu yelled.

Lucy jumped up, her book flying from her lap, and stared up towards Natsu.

"WHAT?!" She screamed.

"YOU'RE READING MEANING WE'RE HAVING A LESSON! I DON'T WANT TO LEARN TODAY!" Natsu whined.

Lucy sighed out in relief and reached for her book again, trying to find her page.

"No silly, you don't have a lesson today." She said kindly.

"Oh, phew. Thank God for that." Natsu grinned.

His grin slowly fell though, if they didn't have a lesson then why was she reading? Natsu walked over to Lucy and hovered over her, staring at the book with many, many words and no pictures on it. Natsu's eyes narrowed as he tried to make out some of these words and he ended up tumbling on top of Lucy as he tried to get a better look. Lucy screeched in surprise before hitting his chest.

"NATSU!"

"Sorry, sorry, I was just wondering why you were reading." Natsu said getting of her.

"I'm reading because it's fun and I enjoy it." She said matter of factly.

"No, fighting and swimming and eating is fun, reading is boring." Natsu pouted.

"For some, but for others like me I love reading. It tells me about the world I've never seen before, the world is actually bigger than we think Natsu." Lucy smiles fondly as she said the words.

Natsu stared at her smile and gulped, tugging at his cheek a little before shaking his head.

"So, this book tells you about the world?" He asked sitting down beside her.

"It tells you about a world the author created, Papa picked it up for me last time he was out. It's called Beauty and the Beast." Lucy said then started giggling, remembering the Beauty and the Dragon story Papa had told her.

"Beauty and the Beast?" Natsu repeated, his nose scrunching up.

"Yes, I've just started. Right now her Father is heading towards the Beast's castle, he's not going to be very happy about that." Lucy pouted.

Natsu hummed and looked over Lucy's shoulder again, staring at the words. He understood some of them, but for others he was a little lost.

"Are you reading now Lucy?" He asked.

Lucy hummed in response.

"I can't hear you read though."

Lucy blinked and stared towards him, " you want to hear?"

"Well, I think I should at least try and understand why you find this fun. Plus Igneel isn't here right now and-"

Natsu stopped when he heard her giggling. She scooted closer to him and placed the book on his lap, resting her head against his shoulder.

"Here, you read it to me." She said.

"What? That's not far, I asked you to read to me." Natsu frowned, stretching his neck so her hair wouldn't be tickling his nose.

"But I can read, if you do this Natsu I won't give you a lesson for another week." She offered.

Natsu frowned and stared at the words on the page.

"Where are we?" He asked.

"Here," Lucy said pointing to the word, "but we can start in the beginning if you want too."

"No, here's fine... you'll help me though, if I get stuck right?" Natsu asked quietly.

Lucy giggled and rubbed her head into Natsu's shoulder, "of course Natsu. That's what teachers are for."

Natsu smiled lightly and tried resting his head on Lucy's, it didn't tickle him as much when he did this and kept it there as he started reading.

"Uh... Lucy?... Lucy, I'm stuck again."

Natsu waited for the word to be said for him, but it never did. He strained his head over to look at Lucy and saw her eyes were closed. Natsu shook his shoulder lightly but she didn't respond in the slightest. He frowned seeing her sleeping face, that was supposed to be him right now... why couldn't it be him right now? Natsu rested his head back against Lucy's and placed the book flat on his stomach. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

He could hear her breathing next to him, hear her heartbeat, feel her chest move and head cuddle closer to him. It wasn't like when they slept together under their Father's claw, it was different. Natsu could feel her against him, feel her resting on him. She was warm, really, really warm against him. Almost as warm as himself. Must have finally inherit some fire dragon magic Natsu thought and smirked to himself as he fell asleep.

Igneel came home to a surprise, which he was used to by now, so he guessed it wasn't really a surprise. There his son and his daughter were, cuddled up together napping in the shade of a tree with a book in his son's lap. Now there was the surprise, a book on his SON'S lap. Lucy's yeah, but his son's?

"Daughter, you are really something else."
