Lucy pouted as she stared up at her height. She raised her hands up and noticed how less chunky his cheeks were, how much leaner his eyes were, how much longer, but not as long as hers, his hair was, how he seemed to be taller, how his chest seemed to stick out more and how when he tried to show off his muscles and flex like he always did, muscles actually came popping out. It just wasn't, it was not-

"It isn't fair!" Lucy screamed slapping his head.

"Ow! What did I do wrong?!" He asked.

At least his voice hadn't change, but still. Lucy pouted as she stared at the Natsu now three feet taller than her instead of two. How had it happened? How hadn't Lucy noticed it happened? Had she changed at all? Lucy pouted as she looked down at herself... well... her hair was longer?... Lucy pouted and kicked Natsu's shin.

"Ow! WHAT AM I DOING TO YOU?!" He yelled.

"You're growing up and it's not fair! I want to grow up too!" Lucy pouted.

"Growing up? I am?!" Natsu asked surprised then looked down at himself.

"Yes and it's not fair! How come I'm not growing up?!"

Natsu looked at Lucy for a second and the only thing he noticed different about her was the... hair? He quickly chuckled and placed a hand on top of Lucy's head.

"Well I'm supposed to grow up faster since I'm going to be the one protecting you." He told her.

Lucy looked up at Natsu, saw his mature face, saw his wide grin, realized that would be something a prince would say and blushed. Natsu saw the look of awe in her eyes as he mesmerized her with his smile and blushed as well. Soon the two of them were just standing there and blushing and Igneel had enough. Kids, he thought rolling his eyes as he swooped in, picked them both up, and started flying off.

Lucy screamed for her dear life while Natsu glared at Igneel.

"Igneel! We were having a moment!" Natsu yelled kicking his feet.

"I know, I saw, and I had to end it." He told him.

"How am I supposed to make Lucy love me then?!"

Lucy, sadly, could not hear this discussion since she was still screaming for her dear life.

"AHHHHHHHHHH!"

"I thought you weren't going to worry about that."

"And I thought you were a nice dragon! What you did was not nice!" Natsu yelled.

"AHHHHHHHHH!"

"I'm just trying to prevent anything from happening too soon."

"From happening? What will happen once Lucy and I are together? Won't we be like what we are now?" Natsu asked.

Igneel blinked and stared down at his son... he completely had no idea what dating people were like. The only reason he wanted to date Lucy was because he didn't want anyone else to have her... so all this time he thought if Lucy dated someone else then they'd just be what he's been doing with her up till now?

"Wait a minute, what do you think happens when you date?" Igneel asked.

"Lucy becomes their teacher and their friend and leaves me all alone! Lucy can't be anyone else's teacher or friend so she has to be with me!" Natsu pouted.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!"

"Boy, do you realize how ridiculous you sound? That's not-" Igneel paused.

"I'm not Ridiculous! Father!" Natsu yelled.

"AHHHHHHHH!"

"CALM DOWN LUCY!" Natsu roared.

Lucy blinked, "okay."

... Why would Igneel tell him the truth about dating? If he knew the truth, what if he actually tried to do what dating people actually did? They did live together and Igneel did leave them alone... a lot! Sure Natsu kissed her, but it was on accident. On accident! And it hasn't happened again since then... or has it?!

"Papa! Where are we going?!" Lucy yelled.

Igneel blinked and found himself flying over the mountains; he passed where he was going. He quickly turned around and flew down to an old cave.

"Hey, is it going to be raining soon?" Natsu asked watching his Father land.

"Noooo! I don't want it to rain!" Lucy cried.

"It's not raining; look at the sun in the sky. We're here for another reason." Igneel said dropping his kids.

He pushed them both against the mountain wall and held them there with his tail.

"What are you doing Papa?" Lucy asked.

"Yeah, what?" Natsu asked.

"Just stay still." Igneel said extending a claw.

He drew a line over Lucy's head and drew another over Natsu's. After he released his tail on them Natsu and Lucy ran away to look at the lines.

"See! Look how tall you are compared to me now." Lucy pouted.

Natsu laughed and scratched the back of his neck, "so I did grow?"

Igneel chuckled at his children and started clawing Lucy's and Natsu's name on the wall above the line along with their age. Lucy, 7, Natsu, 8.

"Papa... I didn't know you could write." Lucy said.

"I've lived for a long time Lucy, a really long time." Igneel said flicking the rocks off his claw.

"What about you Father? We have to measure you too!" Natsu said.

Igneel grinned and stood up on his hind legs, leaning his back against the mountain.

"WHOA!"

"WOW! YOU'RE SUPER TALL PAPA!" Lucy and Natsu awed in amazement.

Igneel chuckled again as he drew a line above his horns. He turned around and wrote his name as well, writing his age as 700s since he couldn't remember exactly how old he was, and went back down on all fours.

"You see this? Our heights are set in stone in this mountain and it'll stay here forever. Now I don't know about you, but I think only a dragon could destroy a mountain." Igneel smiled.

Natsu and Lucy laughed.

"And we'll do this every- almost every year once one of you feel a growth spurt. We'll come right back to our cave and measure ourselves here. Does that sound good?"

"It sounds like fun Father! I can't wait until next year, I'm going to grow twice as big!" Natsu cheered.

"I won't lose to you Natsu! I'm going to grow triple bigger!"

"Oh yeah?!"

"Yup! Watch, next year I'll be so much taller than you."

"Fine, if you aren't though you can't give me a lesson for a week, no, month! And, and, you have to go to the human village and STEAL me some food!" Natsu said.

"Fine! But if I am you have to listen to everything I command for a month and actually CHEW WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSE!"

Natsu and Lucy smirked as they shook hands, "deal!"

"It doesn't matter how many years pass, none of you will be as tall as me." Igneel laughed.

Natsu and Lucy forgot about their little bet and smiled up at their father. They all shared a laugh before the two children climbed back onto their father's back. The whole ride home, and even a little after they returned home, Natsu and Lucy didn't release the hand they shook hands with.
