Dragon's Warmth
.
"Lucy? What are you doing?" Natsu asked.
Little Lucy was hugging her knees into her chest, resting her chin on her kneecaps. She sat at the entrance of the cave, not close enough to get wet but not far enough to not get splashed a little. She looked up at the cloudy, grey skies and blinked.
"Watching the rain." She answered.
Natsu hummed and walked over to her, leaning over her shoulder he pressed his cheek against hers then jumped back.
"You're freezing!" He said.
Lucy giggled, "yeah, sorry."
"Come back near the fire at once before you freeze to death! Igneel warned me about humans dying if they're too cold." Natsu said grabbing her arm.
"It's okay Natsu, that's only if they're super, duper cold! Besides, I want to watch the rain some more." Lucy said looking up at the sky.
Natsu pouted and sat down next to her, leaning his knees against hers. Lucy looked over to him and wondered what he was doing so she asked him.
"What are you doing?"
"Keeping you warm, besides I've never watch the rain before." Natsu said looking up at the sky.
Lucy shrugged and leaned closer to Natsu, feeling a little bit warmer now that she had before. She started watching the rain with him, watch it fall down to Earthland and wet everything around them.
"This is boring." Natsu said.
"I'm sorry, I don't feel doing anything though." Lucy said.
Natsu hummed, he could understand that since there wasn't much to do in their cave. Igneel had gone out to get their food a while ago, Natsu himself took a nap while Lucy was probably just watching it rain. You couldn't just watch the rain though, she must have been thinking Natsu thought because he was thinking right now as he watched the rain.
"Lucy, what are you thinking?" Natsu asked.
"Nothing really, I'm thinking that I'm a little warmer right now that we're talking though." She said.
Natsu hummed again, wondering what was wrong with Lucy. She was usually more talkative, hell he was usually more talkative, but Lucy not talking made Natsu not want to talk. He watched the rain fall as he thought about Lucy. He didn't real know a lot about her, no that wasn't true. He knew a lot about her, he didn't know about her childhood though.
"Lucy, what was your cave like?" Natsu asked.
Lucy blinked and looked at him, "my cave?"
"Yeah, cave, home, what was it like?" He asked.
Lucy smiled sadly at him, "I told myself that I wouldn't look back on my past while I'm with you and Papa. I want to focus on the here and now with my new family."
"Oh." Natsu said.
He was happy, because if she didn't think about her home then she wouldn't want to go home and she'd stay here, but also sad because he wondered what her life was like.
"What about you Natsu? Was Papa always like this when you were younger?" Lucy asked.
"Father? Yeah, yeah! He was! Well, he wasn't as forgetful when I was younger and he was much meaner!" Natsu laughed.
Lucy giggled as she watched her student explain his childhood with their Papa. From his stories she learned that Papa was actually nicer now than he was younger, actually he was a lot nicer now from the stories. Natsu said that Igneel one time threw him in the forest and had him find his own way home and survive himself for a whole week. Lucy couldn't imagine Igneel do that to her.
"Don't worry, Father would never do that to you since your a girl." Natsu said.
"So if I was a boy he'd throw us both in the forest?" Lucy asked.
The two children started laughing, bumping elbows with each other. A sneeze broke Lucy's laugh.
"Bless you." Natsu said.
"Thanks, I think we should move back in the cave now. I've done enough watching the rain." Lucy said getting up.
"Yeah, I'll relight our fire." Natsu said running up to the sticks.
He breathed fire onto it and watched the flames come alive.
"Natsu, does it hurt breathing fire?" Lucy asked warming up by it.
"No, not really. My throat gets warm when I breath it, but nothing hurts. It's like... breathing." Natsu said then took a deep breath and breathed out loudly.
"It's just like that." He explained.
Lucy copied, breathing in loudly before exhaling. She imagined fire coming out of her mouth as she did so.
"Wow Natsu, you have a really cool magic. It must be nice never getting cold." She said.
Natsu smiled, puffing out his chest. "So you've finally accepted my awesomeness huh Lucy?"
She rolled her eyes, running her hands through his hair.
"Sure Natsu."
Natsu started glowing, seems his teacher had finally accepted his awesomeness. Now where was Igneel when you needed him? He was never going to believe this.
"You think it's going to stop raining soon Natsu?" Lucy asked peeking out of the cave.
"Yup, tomorrow in fact actually! I'll use my awesomeness and scare the rain away!"
Lucy giggled, "I'll train with you and Papa tomorrow if it's sunny tomorrow, okay Natsu?"
"Well now I'm making it double sunny so I can show you even more of my awesomeness." Natsu bragged.
"Natsu, your genius is showing." Lucy said.
Natsu looked down around here, "where?" He asked fidgeting.
Lucy started laughing, falling onto her back as her legs kicked in the air.
"Hey, that wasn't funny." He pouted.
"I'll apologize when it's sunny tomorrow." She said.
"Great, now I have to make it triple sunny."
Lucy leaned up and looked at her student gazing into the fire, sticking his hands in it before pulling it away. Of course he couldn't get burned by his own flames so that's why he was playing with it.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow Natsu." She said.
Natsu looked up at her and nodded.
"Me too and don't worry. I'll make it QUATRUPLE SUNNY!"
Lucy only groaned, the sunnier it gots the less funny it became.
