___________________Mal POV
Evie, Jay, Carlos, and I were all on the rocks that formed the edge of the Isle of the Lost. The water that was in the barrier was too deep and was mostly surrounded by crocodiles, so none of us ever went in.
"Tell me again why we're on the edge of the island?" Jay asked.
"Well I want to see the Titanic." Evie said, who was looking out to Auradon.
"I just came to get away from my mother." Carlos said, who was skipping stones, and some hit the border.
"And I only came so I can make another one of my tags." I said as I finished one of my signature artwork. It was a shadow of my mother, with green like flames in the background, and in the center were the words 'LONG LIVE EVIL'.
"So ,why am I here?" Jay asked.
"What else do you have to do? You do the same things everyday. You steal, eat, and go to school." Evie answered. She kept looking to Auradon, trying to get any glimpse of the boat.
"What is the big deal about a giant boat. It's just another thing we'll never see!" Jay blurted out. Everyone turned to him, and Evie had a sad look. I, as did almost everyone on the island, knew that all Evie ever wanted was to go to Auradon and find a prince.
"Come on. I have to get back to doing my chores." Carlos mumbled. We all climbed the large rocks that we came down on. I looked to Evie, who kept looking out to Auradon. She probably knew that what Jay said might had been true.
When we all got back to the bazaar, I noticed a mother with her baby, who a piece of candy. Just for the fun of it, I took it away. Most who nearby let out a laugh, and so did I. I turned around and noticed mostly everyone running away.
This can only mean one thing. I held my head down and turned around. I saw my mother's henchman, and said "Hi mom"
Her henchman moved away and my mother appeared with her scepter. Every time we had a conversation it was either she wanted me to do one of her plan, her telling me I'm not evil enough, or tell her telling me I'm too weak.
"Stealing candy Mal? I'm so disappointed." My mother walked up to me, and had a frown on her face.
"It was from a baby." Just like that, she had a wicked smile.
"That my nasty little girl." She hissed. I smiled, think that I made her proud for once. She took the candy, spit on it, and stuck it under her arm. I frowned as she handed it to one of the men behind her. "Give it back to the dreadful creature."
"Mom." I whined. Whenever I try to be evil, she always one ups me. My mother was on of the best villains there was, and she wanted me to be just as evil.
"It's the deets, Mal, that make the difference between mean and truly evil!" She said out loud so the mother and the child could hear.
"When I was your age, I was cursing entire kingdoms." I mouthed the words. I knew that she did all of this when she was my age, but that was when she had magic. Without that, she only tried to control all without it.
"Mother, I know that."
"Then why aren't you being just as evil!" She whispered as she pulled me away from everyone else. "I am just trying to teach you the thing that really counts. How to be me."
"I know that. And I will do better." I said. I always wanted to be the best at being evil, but my mother always does better than me.
"Oh! There news!" She exclaimed as we walked back in front of Evie, Jay, and Carlos. "You four have been chosen to go on a boat, in Auradon."
