*The next day
Sarah and Avery were serious about getting an alarm system put in. So they went out to see who could install one for a good price. Once they found a place that would do it. They felt relieved. Knowing that the alarm would prevent something like yesterday from happening again made them feel a lot better.
"I'm still in shock." Avery said.
"Me too, I should've fucking locked the door." Sarah felt like she was responsible for it when in reality, it was the person who broke it that did the wrong thing. Sure she should've locked the door, but destroying someone else's home was much worse.
"Sarah, you can't blame yourself for that. The bastard that broke in had no right to do that! And when he's caught, because I know they'll find him, I hope he enjoys the time he'll have to do." Avery couldn't stand to watch her best friend feel like it was all her fault. It wasn't.
Sarah just shrugged it off and walked to her car. She checked her phone for any messages or missed calls. She had two missed calls. Both from the same person. Niall.
She couldn't call him now, Avery was right beside her. She couldn't text him either because Avery would probably wonder who she's texting. Sarah didn't really text many people aside from Avery, her older brother Matthew, and her mom. She just wasn't a texter, she preferred calls. Niall would have to wait until she was alone.
"Shit, I don't have time to go home and change!"
"You can go to work in what you're wearing Avery. It's all black anyway."
"No, well then again, there's extra shirts in the back. I can just change into one." She worked at Applebee's as a waitress. They got promotional tshirts this month so they had to wear those.
"See? Everything's fine." Sarah giggled. Sometimes Avery over exaggerated situations.
"I'll drop you off on the way home."
"You sure you're fine being alone? I can invite Maria over?"
"No, it's ok really."
"Sarah I don't want you alone when I'm not there. Isn't there somewhere you can go?"
There was actually. She just couldn't say it out loud.
"Yeah, just don't worry about me I won't go home then. I'll go the the mall or maybe my brothers." She wasn't going to either of those places.
Avery nodded her head. As long as she wasn't alone.
When they got to Applebee's, Avery bolted out of the car. She hated being late.
Once Avery left the car, Sarah waited for the moment the door closed and Avery wasn't visible any more to call Niall. He answered after two rings.
"Hey, I tried calling you earlier but you didn't pick up." Niall answered.
"Yeah sorry we were looking for alarm systems."
"What? Why?"
Shit. She didn't want to tell him. Sarah didn't want Niall to worry about her. Nothing happened to her, it was just the apartment. Now she had to tell him.
"Uhh," She was nervous for his reaction, "s..someone broke in yesterday so we.."
"What? Why didn't you call me?" Crap he sounded pissed.
"I don't know. I called Avery and she told me to call the cops. Then we just stayed home together."
"Shit Sarah. You should've told me I would've stayed the night if yo.."
