Everything between Niall and Sarah had been going great. A month has gone by and Avery still doesn't know. Sarah constantly felt bad that she had to sneak around Avery and hide things from her, but she was waiting for the perfect time to tell her.
Avery started seeing that guy who gave her his number that day at Applebee's. Sarah was just waiting for when Avery would tell Sarah she really liked this guy. She felt it coming soon.
School started up. After school, Sarah would tell Avery she was doing homework at the library, but she was actually at Niall's. It wasn't a total lie. Part of the time they were doing homework, the other half they were all over each other. Sarah liked the pace things were going with Niall. Things were starting to get serious now.
The weather was starting to cool down a bit. Perfect running weather. So Sarah decided to take advantage of the weather and go for a run. She put on her thin sweater, spandex tights, and her nikes.
"Avery? Have you seen my iPod?" Sarah called out. She was looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere.
"Yeah! It's on the table by the door I was using it before. Sorry."
"It's ok. I'm going for a run I'll be back soon."
Avery just nodded and waved bye as Sarah closed the door.
Sarah walked down the hall to the elevator playing her music and stretching as the music poured into her ears.
*Niall's apartment
Niall was doing his homework when he stumbled across a question in his book that he knew Sarah could help him with. So he dialled her number and waited for her to pick up.
After it rang, he got her voicemail.
"She's probably running." He thought to himself.
He put his phone down and decided to skip over it. He'll call her back later.
*Back at Sarah's apartment
Avery was watching tv when she heard Sarah's ringtone. Her mom or brother was probably calling her. They usually did. Avery got up to see who it was.
Niall? Why the fuck would Niall be calling Sarah? Sarah stopped talking him a while ago. Didn't she? Avery sent the call to voicemail and waited to see if he'd call back.
She sat back on the couch and waited for Sarah to come back. She would have a ton of questions to answer when she got back. Was she still talking to Niall even though Avery told her not to? Sarah better have a good explanation for this.
Moments passed and Sarah came back to Avery standing the middle of the apartment. Her eye brows were scrunched, nostrils were flared, her lips were in an almost frown and her arms were crossed.
"What?" Sarah questioned.
"Did you have fun lying to me?" Avery basically yelled.
Fuck. If Avery was talking about what Sarah thought she was talking about, she was literally screwed.
"Huh?"
"Don't play dumb Sarah! Why did you lie to me?"
"Avery what are you talking about?" Sarah asked just to be sure.
"Niall called."
Shit.
"Why did he call you Sarah?"
"I don't know, maybe he got the wrong number?" Sarah tried to cover it up.
"No I don't buy that. Were you still talking to him after I told you not to?"
Sarah was silent. Avery took the silence as a yes.
"Sarah! I told you not to! How could you? You're my bestfriend and here you are sneaking around and lying to me!"
"I was going to tell you!" Sarah defended.
"When? When were you going to tell me Sarah?"
"When you moved on. And then you started seeing this other guy so I was going to tell you!"
Avery just shaking her head. "Oh so that makes it ok?"
"No.."
"Sarah you're the last person I would've expected this from!"
"I don't know why you're getting all worked up! You didn't even like him! It's not like you guys loved each other! Like you said, you have meaningless sex all the time! Why is he any different?" Sarah always wanted to ask Avery that. Because it was true. Why was he so different from the other boys?
"I.. I don't know he just is!"
"No, that's not good enough! Until you think of a good reason for me not to see him anymore then I'll end things! But I'm not gonna stop seeing the best thing that's ever happened to me just because you say no!" Sarah was breathless after that.
"Best thing that ever happened to you? Sarah what the fuck? You're talking about someone I had sex with! Do you not realize that?"
"Honestly Avery, if we had it your way every guy would be off limits! And that's not fair! Ever since Justin I've never been happy and you know it! So why can't I just have this one guy? Why?" Tears brimmed Sarah eyes.
"Don't play the Justin card Sarah!" Avery's tone was just getting louder.
"Have you not noticed the change of my mood since he came around? Or were you too focused how good your boobs looked to realize?" Sarah was tired of yelling at this point. Tears were streaming down her face, and her throat was sore.
Avery said nothing. So Sarah said one more final thing.
"So like I said before, if you can't give me a proper reason to not see Niall, then don't bother saying anything." Sarah wiped her tears and stormed off to her room.
"Sarah wait!" But Avery was ignored.
Sarah got to her room and slammed the door behind her.
They never fought, not like this anyway. But Sarah should've seen this coming sooner or later. She couldn't help but sob into her pillow. Why did Avery have to care? She didn't want to know what tomorrow would be like.
*Back at Niall's apartment
Sarah hasn't called back. Maybe her phone was dead? Either way he was sure there was a legitimate reason as to why she hasn't called back.
