The drive to Niall's parents house was quiet. The reason being Sarah was too nervous to really say anything. She but her lip, and her nails. Niall had learned that this was habit she had when she was nervous. He could even see she was tense. So he reached across the console and grabbed her hand. He left a small kiss on the back of her hand and rested their hands on his lap. As he ran his thumb over her small knuckles, he could see the tension on Sarah's face slowly disappear.
Niall's parents didn't live that close to the city. They lived about 20 minutes away.
The drive was soon over as they approached his parents street. The houses on this street were fairly large. Considering the fact that Niall's dad was a successful lawyer, they could certainly afford it.
"What does your mom do?" She asked breaking the silence.
"She's an interior decorator." Niall said slowing down.
He turned into the driveway and Sarah felt her heart rate speed up when Niall turned the ignition off. There was more than one car on the drive way. Niall let go of Sarah's hand to take off his seat belt. He looked over and saw she hesitantly took hers off.
"Ok, what's wrong?" Niall turned his head to look at her.
"Nothing." She creased her eyebrows and shook her head.
"You're lying."
Sarah sighed.
"I know you better than you think. So tell me what's wrong."
"I guess.. I'm just nervous.."
"What is there to be nervous about?"
"A lot. That's your family in there." She gestured towards the house.
"So? They don't bite Sarah. All they do is drink and tell jokes they think are hilarious."
Sarah shrugged. Niall got out of the car, walked over to Sarah's side, and opened the door for her.
"C'mon," he held his hand out. "I won't leave your side the entire time. It'll be fun I promise."
Sarah felt silly for being this way. He was right. Nothing really bad could really happen tonight. She took Niall's hand and followed him to the front door. They had to climb a small set of stairs to get to the front door.
Niall rang the door bell and Sarah leaned into Niall as they waited for someone to answer the door. It was chilly tonight and Sarah was praying someone would answer it quick. Her prayers were answered when they heard someone unlock the door.
Niall's mom answered the door. She was just a little bit smaller than Sarah. Niall looked much like his mom. She had a huge smile across her face.
"Hello Niall!" She exclaimed pulling him in for a hug. "Happy birthday! And you must be the girl I've been dying to meet. Sarah, right?"
"Yes, it's nice to meet you Mrs. Horan."
"It's nice to meet you as well. Call me Maura." She gave Sarah a hug as well. Niall's mom gestured for them to come in. Sarah placed her shoes beside Niall's and her jacket on top of his.
Their house was beautiful. The front room was open and organized. There was a large floor length mirror, with a bench beside it that had some shoes underneath and jackets piled on the side. The house was very open, and big. Sarah felt like if she did stray away from Niall she would be lost in a second.
"She's really pretty." Niall's mom whispered to Niall. Sarah heard her and smiled to herself. She suddenly felt a lot more calm. "Everyone is in the living room." Maura guided them. Sarah could hear laughter and voices getting louder as they got closer.
