Sarah's POV
After I reached his voicemail that day, I felt really dumb. It's been a few days and I've got nothing back from him. So that's it I guess. It's done. Even if I called him and we talked, even if we just ended on good terms, I would've been fine. But now, I'm just not going to try anymore.
This weekend my brother is back in town. I'm kind of excited to see him. I miss Matthew. Matthew is six years older than I am, and he lives further away from here so we don't see him often. We just get calls and emails and then see him on holidays.
I think he has a girlfriend. I don't remember her name because I don't remember him ever talking about her. But either way, I can't wait to see him today. We were close growing up. Of course we fought like all siblings, but he's always looked out for me.
Today Avery is with Chris and his family, so I probably won't see her until later tomorrow.
I grew tired of listening to the radio on the way to my mom's. I rummaged through the console in the middle of the front seats to find my The Fray cd. Once I found it I got really excited to put it in for some reason. I played my favourite track 'Run For Your Life'. I've always loved that song, and always go back to it. As the music began to fill the car, I raised the volume.
I kept playing it over and over until I reached my moms. It didn't really have any meaning I just really like it for some reason.
I got really anxious when I saw my brothers car on the driveway. He should really come back more often.
I used my old house key to open the front door. "Hello?" I as I kick off my shoes.
I practically shriek when I see Matthew emerge from the kitchen. I ran to hug him and he had his arms open.
"Hey kiddo, I missed you." He says into my shoulder.
"I missed you too." We stayed in our hug for a few more minutes until my mom came in with another woman who I had never seen before.
"Hey Sarah." My mom says.
"Hi mom." I walk up to my mom to hug her too. "And must be.." I ask giving her a chance to answer.
"I'm Jenna, Matthew's wife." She smiles and sticks out her hand for me to shake. Are hugs to main stream for this girl? Wait.. Wife? She's pretty. Really pretty. She had shoulder length blonde hair, you could tell she dyed it because there were some brown peeking through. She has hazel-green eyes, and she wasn't really tall. She was about my height, but next to Matthew we were all midgets. Matthews 6'1, he got his height from my moms side; all her brothers are tall. But their height difference is really cute.
I turn to Matthew with a raised eyebrow. He shrugs. "We have a lot to catch up on then, don't we?" He laughs to lighten to the mood.
"Yes we do."
"Well let's not linger in the hallway." My mom says and we all walk into the living room.
Matthew sits next to Jenna and I sit next to my mom on opposite couches. I was the first to break the silence.
"So when did you get married?"
"About 6 months ago." They answer almost in unison.
"Oh." I say.
"It was kind of a quick decision. It was nothing big, Jenna was pregnant and we just wanted to get married."
I almost choke.
What?
I looked at my mom, I guess she found out before I did because she's not that surprised.
