Niall's POV
Not exactly sure how I feel about Harry here. I mean it could be worse. It could've been just Harry, Sarah and myself, but I'm grateful Avery is here. She seems a bit down today and I wonder why. Sarah keeps looking her in the eye and asking if she's ok. I hope nothing terrible happened. I don't make it a point to ask.
Sarah and Avery go around the apartment lighting candles. Sarah lights them and Avery hands them to her. I wish they didn't turn that into a two person job because it's awkward sitting across from Harry with nothing to say. The worst part of all this is that I don't want to feel this way towards him, it's just my insecurities I guess.
I glance over to see him watching the girls and playing with his bottom lip. I watch his eyes and make damn sure it's not Sarah he's staring at.
"It's such a piss off that the powers out." Avery huffs. She sits down on further end of the couch closer to Harry.
"Well we can either mope around or we can make the most of it." Sarah tries to lighten the mood. Although there's still enough space for her to sit between Avery and I, it's assuring when she comes to sit on my lap. She puts her back against the arm of the couch so she can still face both Avery and Harry. As if almost on instinct, I twirl the ends of her hair with my fingers.
"And what do you suggest we do?" Harry asks.
She thinks for a minute. "Well we have Apples to Apples, Scategories and cards. Let's play something."
I bit my cheek to stop myself from grinning. Her idea isn't bad it's just I don't know how well board games are going to go down.
"What's Apples to Apples?" Harry questions.
"Well there's a topic card in the middle, and everyone gets seven cards each. Of those seven cards you have to pick which one you think goes best with that topic. The judge picks which answer they like the best. Oh, and you have to put your card face down so it's anonymous." She explains the game and it doesn't sound that bad.
"It's fun." Avery chimes in.
"Then let's play." I add.
Sarah jumps to her feet and runs off to her room to get the game. She returns quickly with a red box and sets it down on the coffee table.
"We can play here or at the dinner table. To be honest, I'd rather play at the bigger table because I hate sitting on the floor for too long." She says.
Without saying anything, we all walk over to the kitchen table. Sarah sits at the head of the table, with me to her left and Harry to her right. I wish Harry and Avery would trade seats. Sarah begins to deal out the red cards amongst us and puts one green card in the middle which I assume is the topic card.
"Right, now who's going to be the judge?" Harry asks.
"Anyone who wants to be can be the judge this round. But usually it's the winner who's the judge." Sarah answers.
"You be the judge then." His smile makes me nervous.
"Ok, is everyone fine with that?"
Avery and I nod. The game begins and I try my best not to laugh at the answer I put down. It's a good thing this is anonymous because my answer has nothing to do with the topic so I don't have much hope for this round. When everyone puts their cards down, Sarah flips them over and reads each on. She picks up mine and I bit the inside of my cheek.
Sarah flips over the cards and immediately laughs at the one I put down. The topic was delicious, I had put down crocs. The other answers were cow-pies and toasters.
