I didn't know what to say. Cheyenne killed Cody. My best friend killed my other best friend. Was I supposed to be angry? Sad maybe?
"It wasn't him. Cody would never go after you like that. It was him or you and the baby, and he would've wanted this." I soothed. Her sobs gradually got louder until she said the guards had gotten there and she had to go.
"No Cheyenne wait-" The call ended before I could finish my sentence. So I sighed and realized that Tray was still there.
"I don't want to talk about it right now." He allowed that and let it go. I wanted to stay there with him, but I know I needed to be there for Cheyenne and to get her out of this mess.
"I have to go. Cheyenne needs me right now." I sighed and he nodded, kissing me lightly. I said my goodbyes and walked out the door, racing to help my friend.
When I arrived, the guards had Cheyenne in chains, but of course she didn't fight. I'm not sure if she wanted to be excused from the crime. I wouldn't let her have a child in a cell. My niece/nephew would be raised in a home, with a mother who has a job.
"Free her." My voice rang through the eerie silence. "But Alph-"
"Did I stutter? Free her now!" They nodded and unlocked the chains from her wrists. Cheyenne fell on her knees and sobbed. I hugged her until her sobs became gentle hiccups. I took her to my place, knowing if she slept there, she would think about Cody. She fell asleep quickly and I constantly checked on her but she was always asleep.
I woke up early, made a small breakfast and left a note. I went for a walk near the creek and near my old den.
Why would Cody suddenly go bizzerk? It's not like him, obviously or else it wouldn't be bizzerk. She said his eyes turned purple, but that doesn't make any sense, Cody is and always has been a vampire. Which means his eyes should only turn red. Was he sick? Poisoned? With what though; what makes your eyes turn purple? Purple of all colors.
Why did he suddenly hate vampires? It sounded like it wasn't even Cody, but then who? Who would take over his mind and how? I can read people's minds but I can't control it.
None of this makes any sense.
"Well, well," a voice interrupted my thoughts. "if it isn't Amelia Collins. The law defying fire fox. So beautiful, and so young." I couldn't see or recognize where the voice was coming from. It was on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn't put my finger on it.
"Who are you?" I asked in a demanding tone, which in reply, they laughed. "Who am I? Isn't that the question of the year. It's funny just yesterday, my disgusting excuse for a wife asked me that."
Cody?
"How are you alive? We carried your body away and it was prepared for burial. The funeral was tomorrow." I mumbled to myself, trying to put the puzzle pieces together.
"Oh how sweet, a funeral for me? You shouldn't have. No really, she shouldn't have killed me!" He sounded enraged and then quickly calmed down.
Mood swings?
"Well I am alive, and I'm going to kill you, Cheyenne, and that revolting fetus growing inside her." I growled and snapped at his last words.
"You won't kill anyone. You want to kill me, do it now. Try me." I growled, daring him. I felt flames ignite around my whole body.
"Oh no dear, I'll kill you when you least expect it. When you're too busy to remember that you have a secret killmirer." He laughed and I narrowed my eyes.
"You get it, because admirers love you, but I hate you and want you dead." He explained dryly. I rolled my eyes.
"I'll always be expecting you, even when I'm busy. You will never touch the people I love!" I exclaimed and ran off when there was no reply. I checked on Cheyenne first, but I didn't tell her what happened. She would be afraid and she would think he could somehow go back to his normal ways. She would try to save someone that couldn't be saved.
"Tray!" I yelled when I walked into his house. Where is he? I looked all over the house but I couldn't find him.
I heard a growl and then he flew out at me. Tray, in his wolf form, pinned me down and prepared to claw out my heart. "Tray!" I screamed and shined me eyes at his.
He changed back into his human form and ran away from me; afraid of himself.
"Tray! Come back!" I ran after him in my fox form. When I caught up to him he was a black wolf again. "What happened?" I asked still running and trying to keep up with him.
"I'm so sorry Amelia. I don't know what happened. My wolf sensed danger and I just attacked." I could hear the regret in his voice.
"Tray, stop!" I demanded as I stopped running and he obeyed.
"I think there's something going around. We need to go back to the house so we won't be overheard. I'm not certain and I don't want to worry anyone." I suggested and he agreed.
When we arrived there I started immediately. "Cody's not dead." I stated and tried to find an explanation but no words came out of my open mouth.
"That's impossible; we saw his body. It was definitely dead." He tried to reason but I shook my head.
"No, he's alive. He started talking to me, but I couldn't tell where it was coming from. It was like he was everywhere. He said he was going to kill Cheyenne, the baby, and me. Then you came out of no where, trying to hurt me-"
"Amelia, I'm so sorry. I don't know what happened-"
"No listen, that happened to you and Cody. Somethings in the air, and I think Cody's doing it to all supernaturals. Something that drives us crazy, and makes us think we're under attack." I tried to understand but there was nothing I could think of.
"Mistletoe." He stated. "Mistletoe drives us crazy. It's like we're having a bad high. We see anyone and everyone trying to kill us and the things we love. Hallucinations, panic, nightmares."
I sat down and sighed. For once, I had no clue what to do.
