'Thats our baby'

I stepped out the shower, water dripping from my chin, and looked in the mirror at my tummy, where the smallest bump had formed. I placed my hands on it and sighed softly. It made me look fat but Jade had reassured me that soon it would look like a real bump. Remembering that, I smiled and then wrapped a towel around myself and walked into the bedroom. I had my 3 month scan today so I just pulled on joggers and a top. I put my hair up and only put on foundation. Jade came through, already dressed with no make up on, and hugged me from behind. "We can find out if we are having a boy or girl today, right?" she whispered in my ear and I nodded.

"We can be told but we have to double check at the next scan" I smiled and placed my hands on top of Jades.

"So Jamie for a girl and Toby for a boy, right?"

"Yeah" I smiled and spun round in Jade's arms. "Should we go then?" I kissed her cheek and she nodded.

"Lets go" she took my hand and we walked down to the car. We climbed in and turned on the radio. Change Your Life was playing and me and Jade started singing along loudly. We stopped at a red light and we were dancing in our seats. We got weird looks from people but we just laughed it off and began to drive again.

We soon got to the hospital. We parked up and went inside. We sat on the plastic chairs in the waiting room, silently. No one else was talking so we didn't speak either. It seemed far too long before a nurse came and took us through to a room where a midwife was waiting. She smiled at us.

"Hello, my names Jenny and I will be your midwife through your pregnancy" she was looking at me but directed it to both of us. Me and Jade introduced ourselves and then I climbed up onto the bed while jenny started up the ultrasound. I giggled as the cold gel was squeezed on to my tummy and held Jade's hand. She was looking eagerly at the screen, grinning like an idiot. I laughed softly at her and soon the sound of a tiny heartbeat was filling the room.

I looked at the screen and saw the blurry image of our baby. I welled up and grinned. I couldn't believe that, that was my baby on the screen. My son or daughter. It just felt so surreal.

"That's our baby" I smiled and Jade looked down and kissed my forehead. We looked at the image for a while, Jenny pointing out different parts. I was constantly wiping tears out my eyes and then welling up again. I was so overwhelmed. In 6 months I would be able to hold the baby and it just felt so weird.

"Would you like to know the sex of your baby know?" Jenny smiled at us and I nodded, happily.

"Yes please" I smiled and she nodded. She looked at the image a bit more. She took down notes which I couldn't read from where I was lying and then turned to us.

"From what I can make out, you're having a baby girl" she smiled and I wiped my eyes while Jade grinned stupidly down at my tummy. I laughed softly at her and looked down at my tummy.

"Baby Jamie." she laughed softly and I nodded.

"Baby Jamie" I repeated and I was handed a wipe to wipe the gel off my tummy. I sorted out my top and then stood up, still smiling.

"Would you's like to discuss some things? Get some leaflets and stuff to do with pregnancy?" Jenny smiled and I nodded.

"That'd be great, thank you" we followed her down the corridor and into an office. Jenny signalled for us to sit down and then she raked in a drawer and a couple of minutes later she pulled out a couple of pieces of paper and some leaflets. She walked over and sat at the desk.

"So, as you know im going to be your midwife right through until the baby is a few months old. The next time we meet will be in the maternity hospital but we were just here today because there was no free rooms we could do the scan in." She smiled and started to fill in some forms. She asked us some details and we sat for a while she went through all the forms.
