Cam draws me closer, leaning into the doorjamb and kisses me lightly, "See ya." Then he slips back into the hallway and I shut the door.
"Hellooo?" I call when I let myself into the apartment, dropping my bag on the entryway floor and padding in with my socks.
"Honey! Did you have a nice trip?" Mom is on the couch trying her hand at crocheting with Felicity on the TV. It's a dramatic college-age show she liked when she was younger. Her hair is loose and waving, shorter than I saw last and just touching the collar of her polka dot button down.
"It was nice." I drop onto the couch; it's even more comfortable than usual after the six whole hours spent in the car today.
"Cam's not coming in?"
"His mom missed him."
"Ah, I haven't seen her in a while, maybe I'll message her on Facebook tonight." What she's making doesn't really look like crochet but she's concentrating very hard on it, so I don't say anything about it. "So what did you do?"
"Mm, talked a lot. Hung around the apartment, then we went exploring Montreal and stuff. I saw a nice museum exhibit and ate a lot of bagels."
"Awe, that's nice, honey."
"Why are you crocheting?"
"Oh, I just... feel like it." Says the least crafty woman on the planet.
"Okay, you can tell me later." I curl my legs beneath me and focus on the show. I've only seen it a couple of times but I think it's Julie freaking out on the screen at the moment.
"What's happening?"
"Julie was raped by the boy she was dating and Felicity thinks she needs to tell someone but she thinks no one will understand." I try not to cringe at the paralleling.
"Oh, yeah..." Casual or not casual? Should I wait because she's obviously crocheting because of something?. "There's something we need to talk about."
