"How are you doing, though?" Gabriel asks, hugging his Calculus textbook to his chest. He bounces from foot to foot restlessly as we wait for our turn to cross the busy street. It strikes me again, how similar he and Cam are, but also how different. If Cam runs at 'normal' speed, Gabriel is at 1.25 at his slowest. Always moving.
"Good. I feel good."
"That's good, so does that mean I don't have to keep asking that?" He does his slightly doglike headshake and sweeps his hair charmingly to one side.
"Yes."
"Wait, yes that does... oh, for some reason I thought there was a double negative in there."
"Just two positives."
He makes a face, half pouting and raising both eyebrows. "Weird."
Ellis is already inside of the diner, his pen tracing over his sketchbook; the beginnings of a contour drawing sprawl across the page.
"Ellie, my boy, how's it hanging?" Gabriel uses his obnoxiously deep athletic-male voice and Ellis smiles up at him.
"Fabulous, Gabby, just really great."
"Anyway," back to his usual, more tenor voice, "I think you should draw me."
"Why's that?"
"Because I'm beautiful?" He smiles with his dimples and sparkly brown eyes, resembling a choir boy with those cherubic curls.
"Maybe I already have, and you just don't know it yet." Ellis arches an eyebrow mysteriously; I wave the waitress over.
"Have you?"
"No."
