Anaïs woke up on top of Ryder- her legs were twined with his, her cheek rested against his chest, and his hand was situated on her lower back. She cautiously slipped from his embrace and shut the alarm off as fast as she could. She looked back to see if Ryder had woken up but he had merely shifted onto his side. The covers were tangled around his waist, his chest left gloriously bare, and it moved down to his hips as he shifted again. Anaïs had the urge to go back to him but she had a job and she couldn’t shirk her responsibilities simply because she wanted to feel his body against hers. There were things to do, paintings to sell, and sculptures to categorize- there wasn’t time to indulge in stolen moments of warmth and comfort.

Anaïs stepped into a steaming hot shower and sighed as the heat soaked into her pores and cleansed her mind. She didn’t notice that she was humming Frere Jacques as she poured shampoo into her hand and rubbed it into her hair till it was foamy.

Anaïs was under the spray when the door to the shower slid open; allowing for a gust of cold air to burst in and raise the hairs on the back of her neck. Anaïs shivered and gasped simultaneously as she involuntarily wrapped her arms around her breasts as if they were the part of her body she most needed to shield.

“Ryder!”

“Lets conserve water and shower together,” he grinned, already undressed.

He stepped under the spray with her before she could muster a reply and had her backing up against the wall without much effort at all.

“God, what a corny line. You startled me you jerk.”

“Hey,” Ryder pointed out, “it may have been corny but it worked.”

“It worked because I’m still half asleep and my brain won’t be able to function for at least

another hour.”

“Yeah? Well in that case, I can think of a lot better lines that have nothing to do with conserving water and more with-”

“My god, you even wake up horny. Move it,” Anaïs grinned, making sure she kept her eyes above his waist, just in case, “I need the conditioner.”

She groaned as Ryder held it just out of her reach.

“You have to start humming that song again if you want this.”

“Dammit Ryder I’m going to be late. I need… what?”

Ryder proceeded to hum the very beginning of Frere Jacques and Anaïs blushed in embarrassment.

“Was I really humming that?” she asked.

“You bet,” Ryder teased, “it was adorable.”

He took mercy on her as her whole face burned red and gave her the bottle. Anaïs looked at it for several minutes before taking it in her hands.

This was why she lived alone; She didn’t have to worry about embarrassing herself if there was no one around.
