This new woman  was going to be a problem. She was small but observant and he could already tell she was another one of those psychics; The way she walked around like she owned the city… he detested it. She was nothing like his dear Anaïs; this woman wasn’t anywhere near as beautiful.

Picaud watched from a distance as the woman slipped her arm through the man he knew was called Ryder. She looked up at him with sparkling eyes and it made Picaud feel sick. She was too happy; he didn’t like that sunshine-filled smile of hers or the way she brightened up at Ryder’s every word.

Anaïs couldn’t possibly like such people could she? It wasn’t like her… Anaïs didn’t have friends like these. Hell, Picaud thought, she hardly had any friends at all. There had been that one man, Nikolas he believed he was called, but he was obviously not in the picture anymore. This new man and this woman were a bothersome pair. Picaud wished he could simply pull out his gun and shoot them both in the head but sadly that just wasn’t a possibility; they were in the busiest section of Paris during spring, the busiest season for tourism of the year, and he couldn’t shift forms because the sun was draining all of his energy. He had to satisfy himself with the thought of killing them. He knew he would be able to soon go through with his thoughts soon enough; as long as he was patient he could do everything he wanted, attain everything he desired.

It was only a matter of time, he thought, and time wasn’t something he had to worry about.

“Dominic? What a coincidence, running into you,” Ryder muttered when Jacky suddenly bumped into the vampire.

Jacky immediately smiled and laughed the incident off but Ryder wasn’t so quick to dismiss Dominic’s presence as pure chance. What would he be doing in the shopping district of Paris in the middle of the day? It was suspicious to say the least.

“Quite a coincidence,” Dominic frowned as well, “I do apologize for running in to you ma chère, I don’t pay much attention to where I’m going when I think.”

“Oh it’s alright,” Jacky smiled again, “I’m Jacky by the way. You and Ryder are friends?”

“I wouldn’t say that, no.”

“Oh? Why not?” Jacky asked.

Ryder chose to answer himself in case Dominic decided to twist the answer in his favor.

“We haven’t known each other long enough to be friends. I met him once.”

“Yes,” Dominic agreed with a friendly smile, “that’s exactly why. Now, I’m sure I’ve taken up enough of your time. It was a pleasure to meet you Jacky.”

“Likewise,” she answered, unable to stop smiling.

Dominic brought her hand to his lips, kissed her knuckles and turned to leave. Jacky stared after him and when he finally disappeared into the crowd she released a heartfelt sigh.  Dominic was an unbearably sexy man, she thought, her heart still pounding in her chest.
