Life With Trent Harmon

Part One: The Meeting

You walk into the Longhorn Steak house with your family and sit at a table in the corner. You start looking at your menu and after a minute your waiter comes up to your table.
"Hey. How are y'all guys?" The guy says in a cheerful voice. You all mumble your answers and then he says "what can I get y'all to drink?"
Your family goes around then table and tells him. When it's your turn, you say "dr. Pepper, please" and look up to flash him a smile of appreciation and you suddenly can't breathe. You make eye contact with him and he flashes a great big smile your way and says "alright I'll bring them right out." And walks away.
You go back to looking at your menu but all you can see is the baby blue eyes and the gorgeous smile. Just as you are finally getting your heart back to its normal pattern, he walks up and puts your families glasses at each seat. He stands behind your brother's chair, directly in your view. "I'm Trent, by the way." He says staring at you "I forgot to say that a minute ago... What're yalls names?"
You're the first to speak up.
"I'm (y/n)" you say and look into his eyes and smile. Each of your family members introduce themselves but his eyes never leave you.. Once they are done, he blushes and looks away from you, realizing he's been staring.
"Nice to meet y'all!! What can I get y'all to eat??"
You order first, and then stare at him listening intently to each of your family members, he even takes the time to bend down to your brother's level to take his order... Once he has everyone's order, he says "be right back with it!" And runs off to the kitchen.
After waiting for a few minutes, you look up to see your best friend, Clay, coming out from the back room.
"Clay!!!" You say, standing up to hug him as he gets close to your table.
"(Y/n)!!!" He says as he pulls you into a hug. " I haven't seen you in forever.!!!"
"I know!!! You went off to Cali and forgot about us small people.." You say, teasing "oh I'm so glad you're working tonight!!!"
"Yeah, me too!! we gotta hang before I go back tho!! I've missed my best friend." He says with a smile.
"I'm totally in!!"
"Okay, I gotta get back to work. But I'll call you later on and we will go grab some lunch or something." He says and hugs you again! He waves at your family and says "bye guys! Good to see y'all."
As he walks away, you see Trent walking away from another table, switching his eyes back and forth from you and Clay. You smile at him and he blushes and looks away and you go back to looking at your phone.
A few minutes later, Clay and Trent bring your food to the table. They talk to your family for a second. As they turn to walk off, Trent catches your eye and he smiles at you and says "let me know if y'all need anything!!" You say "sure thing. Thanks!!" "Don't mention it." He says, smiling.
As your family finishes eating, you hear a guitar and then a guy singing. You turn around and see that a make shift stage has been set up and Trent is sitting on a stool, guitar in hand. When he sees you looking at him, he smiles briefly and then goes back to singing.
"When a man.. Loves a woman... He can't keep his mind on nothing else..."
You are still staring when your dad says "okay time to go..."
"But daddy. Let's stay and listen to Trent for a minute..." You whine.
"No I have a phone call to make... Maybe next time.." You stand up, and walk to the door. Before you walk out, you turn around and smile at Trent, who is lookin your way, and wave. He smiles again and you walk out the door.

Later that night, you are laying in bed watching Netflix and your phone buzzes. You look at it and see that you have a new message from Clay.
"Hey frand. So good to see you tonight!!"
"Yeah you too!! I've missed your goofy self" you shoot back quickly.
"Oh I've missed you too!" He sends back and then another message comes in before you can respond.
"Quick question for you.."
"Alright, shoot!!" You send back and go back to watching Netflix.
When you look at your phone again, you see two new messages from him.
You unlock your phone and your heart stops beating for a second.
"Okay so Trent hasn't shut up about you since he saw me at your table. Can I give him your number??"
"(Y/n)? Is that okay? I hope so, cuz he already got it out of my phone..."
You laugh a little and then type "forreal?!!" And hit send. You don't realize you are shaking until clay responds and you can barely see the response.
"Yeah.. He says he won't text you unless you say it's okay. He doesn't want you to think he's creepy..."
"Haha yeah it's cool." You say, trying to play it off like its no big deal..
You continue watching Netflix, checking your phone every few minutes for a message.
Eventually, you fall asleep with your phone in your hand.

The next morning, as soon as you wake up, you check your phone, promising yourself you won't get upset if there's no message and that if there is you won't respond until after breakfast.
Your eyes scroll through your notifications and finally you see a message from an unknown number.
You force yourself to breathe and decide to not even open it until after breakfast.
You climb out of bed and start to walk out of your room when your phone dings. You run over and grab it off the bed.
"Just a message from Clay." You think, and open it.
"Wake up. It's too late to be sleeping."
"I'm awake. It's only 9:30. Do you need something😒" you send back.
"Nah. Just seeing if you were awake."
"Weirdo" you think as you lock your phone.
You walk into the kitchen and pour yourself a bowl of cereal. You lay your phone beside you and start to eat. After a few bites, you suddenly remember the unopened message. You try to keep eating but feel like you can hold anything down.
You pick up your phone and click on the message.
"Hey (y/n). This is Trent Harmon from the Longhorn tonight. Clay gave me your number.. Sorry it's so late! I just got off work... Hope to talk to you soon. Have a good night."
A chill runs down your spine as a smile crosses your face.
"Who you smiling at over there?" Your mom asks as she walks into the kitchen.
"No body." You say quickly as you take your bowl to the sing and rush to your bedroom.
"Hey Trent.!" You type as you jump onto your bed.. "Sorry i am just now responding to your message. I fell asleep early last night after eating all that yummy food at the Longhorn last night! Thanks for being an awesome waiter."
You take a deep breath and hit send..
As your message sends, you get another message from Clay.
"Since You don't know how to text people back, I was just gonna see if you wanted to grab lunch and go see a movie with me and some friends today..."
"Who is "some friends" clay??" You ask quickly.
"Oh just me and my girl friend, Ashley." He says. And then another message "and Trent.."
"Clay." You type "does he know that you're inviting me??"
"It was his idea. We are meeting at longhorn at 1:30. Be there." As you read the message, your heart jumps to your throat.
"I'll be there" you send back.
You get in the shower, and when you get out, you have two new messages.
Clay: "yeah I figured. See you then."
You roll your eyes and click on the next message.
"Good morning. I figured you'd be asleep last night.. I normally don't work that late but I had to help move the 'stage' to get it out of the way."
"Oh yeah. I hated that I had to leave before your set even really got started. My parents are lame sometimes 😂." You type quickly. "Maybe next time!!"
You get a response almost immediately
"Yeah maybe next time! Clay just called and said we are all going to get lunch and a movie... He's pretty straight forward about all of this, haha."
"Yeah he is. For sure." You say back.
"Haha. Sorry if you didn't really want a random guy to have your number, you just seemed cool, and you're absolutely beautiful. So I just wanted you to know that." He sends back. As you are trying to remember how to breathe, he sends "sorry.! That was creepier than it was supposed to be😂😂. I'll just go hide in a hole now."
You laugh outloud and type back "HAHA! No. No hole hiding. It wasn't THAT creepy😉 thank you so much. You seemed pretty cool, too. I'm glad you got my number."
"😅 good. Sorry.! I'm not normally like this... #awkotaco ... Anyway.. I really hate to do this, but I gotta go feed the cows before I get ready to go eat with y'all, so I'll see you there. Okay?"
You feel your heart drop, and you say "okay. See you then! Thanks for texting me.."
"Oh no. Thank you for texting me back, even if I am a creeper😉😂. See you soon! 😊"

You feel yourself blush as you let out a squeal.
You open your messages to clay and say: "Thought you said it was his idea ?"
He responds a few minutes later with "okay so maybe I lied. 😏😏😏 you're welcome. See you in a bit.."

"Hey mom! I'm going to eat lunch with some friends today..." You yell out as you get up and start getting ready..
