You walk down the stairs and say "I'll call you back in a little while. Wish me luck.."
And hit the end call button. Once you get to the bottom of the stairs, you take a deep breath and walk into the kitchen.
Your mom is talking to Katie, who is finishing up her breakfast. She sees you come in and say "good morning.."
You smile at her and then fix a bowl of cereal. Katie jumps up and runs into the living room as she finishes. You sit in the chair that Katie had been sitting in and look at your mom.
"Today's the day, huh?"
You nod and look down. You feel tears in the eyes but you blink them back a few times. You look up at her again and she has her back to you.
"Hey mama. I have a question.."
She turns and looks at you and says "shoot."
"Since Trent's plane is leaving so early in the morning, and he wants me to ride with them, Mrs. Cindy suggested that I just stay at their house.."
"No. Don't even finish that question." She looks at you like you are crazy.
"Mom."
"(Y/n). No. You aren't staying the night at your boyfriend's house just because he's leaving for a few weeks."
"Mama. He's gonna be in his room. I'm gonna be on the couch. They never leave us alone in a room by ourselves, anyway." the tears come back into your eyes and you don't fight them back "and we don't know how long he will be gone. Please mama."
She looks at you sympathetically for a second but says "I'm sorry. It's a no. Even if I agreed, your dad wouldn't ever consider it."
"Just call him. They are still on the road. He will have time to think about it." You beg.
"You call and ask him." She comes over and hugs you "I know this doesn't seem fair, honey. But y'all have barely been dating a month. I don't see your dad ever being okay with it... But if he says it's okay, then..."
You hug her back and stand up. You walk out to the porch and pull your phone out of your back pocket.
You dial your dad's number and a cold February wind blows over you, and your teeth start chattering.
"Hello?"
"Hey daddy!l"
"What's up?"
"Okay I have a question. But you have to listen to the whole question and promise to not answer with out thinking about it.." You say in one breath.
"Uhh.. Okay?" You hear him say.
"Okay. So you know trent is flying back to LA tomorrow morning and his plane takes off at 6:00. He wants me to go with them but they will have to leave his house at 3:30 in the morning.. So Mrs. Cindy thought it would be a good idea for me to stay with them tonight."
"Are you crazy?" Your dad asks you in a shocked tone.
"Daddy please. He's gonna stay in his bed room and I'm sleeping on the couch. They never leave us in a room by ourselves. Please. This will be my last time to see him in who knows how long."
"Absolutely not (y/n)."
You wrap your arms around yourself and sigh as the tears start falling onto your face .
"Daddy. Please. At least think about it."
He takes a long pause and then finally says "what'd your mom say?"
"She told me to ask you.."
He takes a deep breath and says "let me call her. But don't get your hopes up. I don't like this at all.."
A small smile climbs across your face.
"Okay.. I know.."
He hangs up and you walk inside. You walk up to your bed room and lay down on your bed.
After a few minutes, Trent texts you "any luck?"
You open it and type back "not much.. Mom and dad are talking now but both seemed pretty much against it.."
"Oh.😞 well. If not, it's okay. We are still goin out tonight."
You open it but don't respond as the tears come back.
You fall asleep and wake up to your mom coming in your bedroom.
You sit up as she sits on your bed.
She looks at you and the first glimpse of hope breaks through your sadness when she half smiles at you.
"I just got off the phone with your dad.." She takes a deep breath. "We talked about it and we decided that this once it would be okay. But.." You cut her off by hugging her "mama thank you so much."
She waits for you to finish and then looks at you with a seriousness you haven't seen in her in a while in her eyes. "Do not get used to this. It is a one time thing. Don't expect this when he comes home. Do you understand me?"
"Yes mam." You say, looking at her "thank you so much."
"You need to thank your daddy. He was the one who talked me into it." She laughs "I don't know how you have him wrapped around your finger so well." You smile and then she says
"If you give me any reason to regret this, I swear.."
"Mama. I promise. I won't." You hug her again.
As she walks out of your room, she says "expect a call from your daddy in a few minutes. And you better listen to every word he says." And then walks down the stairs.
You open your messages with Trent "they actually agreed, babe. They said I could."
"FORREAL??" He sends right back.
"Yeah! They weren't happy but they understood.."
"Awesome! I gotta finish packing, I'll see you in about 2 hours.." You smile and then tears come back to your eyes.
Before you can text him back, your phone starts ringing and you answer.
For the next half an hour, you listen to your dad tell you how to act and what not to do.
