Part 3: Just a Conversation

You are sitting outside on the unseasonably warm January afternoon,  on the swing on your front porch, listening to music when your phone dings. You try not to look at it right away. "Don't be clingy and obvious."!you keep saying to yourself.  You sit there for 10 more seconds and you can't take it anymore. You pick up your phone and open the message.
"Hey. I am back, sorry. The cows were hungry. They got their food, now it's my turn. What're you doing? Wanna grab some food??"
Your heart races and then drops.
"I would love to, but mom is making me stay here and watch Katelyn, and I don't think she'd be happy if she came home and we weren't here..." You type back and hit send. And then type another message
"Besides, mom said we can't go anywhere again until she meets you.. Even though she already met you at the Longhorn.."
You put your phone down beside you and look up to watch your 5 year old sister play in the yard. You watch her for a second and then look at the sky. The sun is setting, and it is making the sky all shades of red and pink.
You get another message, and immediately open it.
"Oh, yeah you told me that. I forgot. I guess it's good that I'm meeting her tomorrow 😁 haha . You're still coming over for the AI viewing party aren't you??"
You smile as the cool breeze blows over you and type
"If you still want me to come..."
Almost as quickly as you sent the message, another one comes in:
"If I want you to? Of course I do!! It'll be cool to get to hang out again..."
Before you respond, you get another message:
"It feels like it's been a week..😅"
You laugh and it catches Katelyn's attention. You type out your response as she comes running over to you
"I totally agree. It'll be fun to see you again. Who all will be there??"
As you hit send, Katelyn jumps in your laugh. "Hey sissy. Who maked you laugh?" She asks in her little girl voice as she wraps her arm around your neck.
"Just one of my friends, Katie. Go back and play a little longer" you hug her back and then put her back on the floor. As she runs off, your phone dings again.
"My mom. Dad. RK. Richard Parker."
"Who's Richard Parker??" You send back. As you wait for a response, you remember meeting Randi Kathrine earlier that day at Walmart.! You were in line, about to check out when she came up behind you and tapped you on the shoulder.
"Are you (y/n)?" She asked, with her eyes sparkling.
"Yeah I am.." You had responded, confused.
"I'm Randi Kathrine. Trent's sister!! I thought you looked like the girl from his snapchat story. He hasn't shut up about you."
You blushed and said "yeah, that's me.. I guess. I haven't seen any other girls on there, but that doesn't mean anything. Haha"
"No it was for sure you." She laughed. "That picture of you was the only thing he has posted on there in three weeks." She looked at her phone and said "I gotta run, but I'll see you later. Didn't Trent say you were coming to the AI party tomorrow??"
"I'm planning on it, if he still wants me to come.." You laugh.
"Oh I'll see you there. He wants you there, trust me." She winked and laughed and hugged you. "See you tomorrow" she said and then walked off.
Your phone goes off again as the memory fades.
"Dr. Richard Parker?? I thought I told you about him. He's my dog.. I mean son."
You laugh and send back "can't wait to meet him!!! Hey did Randi Kathrine tell you I met her today??"
"Oh lord.! No she didn't. Did she scare you? She's good at that.." He sends back.
"No!! She was really sweet 😂😂 it just surprised me that she recognized me.. She also said you hadn't shut up about me..."
"Oh..." He sends back immediately.. Then "it's true 😳 I'm guilty."
"😂😂 pretty much the same on this end."
"Oh really??" He says back quickly, "what's such a pretty girl like you saying about me?!"
"Dontcha wish you knew😉" you send.
"😫 yes" he says back.
As you start to text back, katie comes running up to you again. "Sissy. I'm hungry. Can we has some Mac and cheese now?"
You pick her up and walk towards the kitchen. "Of course".
After you fix her supper, and give her a bath, she's ready for bed.
You tuck her in, and kiss her on the cheek. "Goodnight princess. I'll see you tomorrow!!"
As you walk out of her room, you remember that you left your phone out on the swing and that you hadn't texted Trent back yet. You walk outside and pick up your phone. 
Two new messages.
The first is from your best friend Clayton in the group chat with him and his girl friend "can't wait for tomorrow night. It's gonna be so fun."
"Uh what's tomorrow night??" You ask, confused.
Before you can look at the next message, Clay responds "AI viewing party at the Harmon's my favorite night of every year!!"
"Oh didn't know y'all were coming😅"
"Yeah sorry to be intruding on your date." He responds immediately, again.
"It's not a date," you type "we are just hanging out with his family, and y'all..."
Once you send it, Ashley responds with "you're meeting each other's families. And you're hanging out at his house because he invited you. It's a date. get over it."
You read her message, but don't respond. You click on the next message.
"Didn't mean to be creepy with that. Sorry!"
"No!! You weren't creepy. It was funny!! Katelyn wanted supper and then I had to give her a bath, and then put her to bed.. Life of a big sister, I guess. Haha" you type. "Sorry it took so long. You don't have to text me back. I know you have other things to do! I just wanted you to know you didn't creep me out. 😜"
You turn on the tv, and find a sappy love movie to watch. Five minutes into the movie, you get another message: "oh. I will always text you. When we aren't texting, I'm thinking of ways to start a conversation or what to say next time we talk.. Glad to know I don't creep you out.. Or that I haven't yet. There's still plenty of time for that😉"
You laugh "eh being creeped out wouldn't be so bad, if it was you. 😂 hey. Why didn't you tell me that Clay and Ash were coming to the party tomorrow??"
"Oh, yeah. Haha I forgot, honestly. This is kinda a every season thing, and they always come over to watch all the episodes, because we are the only ones with a living room big enough that everyone has somewhere to sit and be together." He sends back. And then another message. "They still don't know that I'm gonna be on there tomorrow night. They know I auditioned, but they don't know that I'm gonna be on this week. You and my family are the only ones who know. ☺️"
"Well ain't I just special😊??" You send back, joking around with him.
"You really are (y/n) you don't even know."
You feel yourself blush you start to type another message but another one comes in before you finish typing.
"I miss your voice... Can I call you??"
As you read, your breath catches in your throat and you feel your face getting even hotter.
"Absolutely!" You type back "I miss yours too.."
You hit send and a few seconds later you have an incoming call.
"Hello?" You say, trying to remember how to breathe..
"What's up , beautiful?" His smooth voice says across the line.
You feel yourself smile even bigger as you settle more into the couch and easy conversation starts.
