The next morning, you wake up with a bad headache as the sun shine comes streaming through your curtains. You smile to yourself and think " I must have slept later then I meant to.."
you look around your room and your eyes land on a picture of you and Trent on your dresser and suddenly everything that happened the night before comes rushing back to your mind.
The tears come back to your eyes and you pick up your phone to distract yourself. The clock on your lock screen tells you that it's already 11:36 am.
Against your better judgement, you read through all of your notifications on your screen.  The one on the very bottom is a missed call from Trent. And then a text from him from 6:37 am. You decide to not read what it says yet, as the tears cloud your vision. You blink a few times and then look at the notification above the message from Trent. It's a message from clay from 7 am "hey, um.. what's going on? I woke up to 4 new calls from Trent and a few texts. I just got off the phone with him and he's on his way over. He seems really upset. What happened last night?"
The next notification is a text from Randi Kathryn. "Hey girl. Just making sure everything is okay. Trent hasn't slept at all. I heard him when he left in the middle of the night and then when he got back. He won't talk and was gone before breakfast. Is everything okay?"
The last notification is from clay again. "Text me when you wake up. Please. Trent is really upset."  'He should be' you think to yourself as you keep reading "he told me everything and yeah he was stupid but he loves you."
You type back "I'm Awake. He should be upset, clay. He was a jerk to me. He will be okay. I just need some time. Please tell him that."
"Fine." Clay sends back quickly.
You sit up in the bed, and your head feels heavy from all of the tears. You take your phone and walk down stairs.
As soon as your mom sees you, she stops in her tracks and says "hey honey... are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine." You say, trying to act normal.
"Trent came by about 9, and asked if you were up yet..." she says, questioningly. "He seemed upset. He looked like he had been up all night, and he was about to cry.. you might wanna call him."
"Mom. Okay." You snap and the tears pool in your eyes, and for the first time your mom realizes that you are also upset
"Oh sweetie, what happened?"
You explain to her the night before, and suddenly feel bad for jumping on him for just wanting to see his friends.
"Sweetie. I'm sorry!!! He should have cared that you didn't feel good."
"Maybe he did care. He just wanted to see clay.."
"But sweetie he should have understood that you didn't feel good.. if he's gonna act like that, maybe you deserve someone better."
Your heart drops and you let the thought roll around in your mind for a second 'better than Trent?' 'Breakup with him?' Suddenly the tears are back and you say "mama. There's no one better for me."
She looks like she is gonna dispute what you're saying but then the look on her face softens. "I know that feeling...  right before your dad and I got engaged, we had a fight almost exactly like this, except you know.. he wasn't the American idol and he wasn't always a hundred miles away.."
A smile tries to creep on to your face as she kept talking. "One night he wanted to go to the movie and I didn't feel like it so I just wanted to go home and watch a movie. But he got movie tickets anyway."
As she finishes her story, there is only one thing you want to do. "And then all of the sudden, I realized how much he meant to me- no matter how mad he made me.." she says and tears come back to your eyes. "You just have to decide if the distance and arguing and hurt is worth it. You have to decide if you love him enough to over look when he's hard headed... but if you decide that it's not worth it, I'm here. I'll always be here..."
"Thank you mama..." you say as you throw your arms around her neck.
She kisses you on the cheek and says "here let me make you some lunch."
A few minutes later, she sits a ham and cheese sandwich down in front of you and says "what are you doing the rest of the day?"
You shrug and look down at your sandwich  and take A bite.  She makes easy conversation as you finish your meal. When you take your last bite, your mom says "can you go pick Katie up from school? I need to do some stuff around here. And getting out of the house might be good for you..."
"Yeah I can.." you say and set off to your bed room to get dressed.
Just like every other time you've picked Katie up from school, she jumps in your car at 3:07 and smiles at you.
"Hey sissy!!"
"Hey Katie bug!" You smile back at her as your heart drops when you use Trent's nickname for her. "Where you wanna eat today?" You ask, pushing your feeling aside.
"McDonald's please."
You pull out of the school parking lot and head towards McDonald's as Katie tells you about her hard spelling test and about all of her homework.
"We might need to take your food home to eat it.."
"Yeah that's a good idea.. I need to learn my spelling words for the spelling bee..."
"Katie they have spelling bees for first grade now?"
"I'm about to graduate to second grade, sissy.."
"You know you're not graduating right? That was just for kindergarten..."
"Oh..." she says, looking at you with a confused look.
You order her food and then say "me and you can do something special- since you don't get to graduate..."
"Like what?"
"Whatever you wanna do.." you smile at her. As you pull up to the window and get her food she says
"Can Trent go too?"
Your heart sinks "we will have to see..." you say and try to think of a way to change the subject.
Before you can say anything, Katie says "oh sissy I forgot to tell you" the excitement in her voice makes you smile.
"What?" You ask, trying to match her excitement.
"Trent came to my class today."
"What Katie??" You ask as you turn down the radio and your heart speeds up.
"He came to my class today. to show them that he knows me."
Your heart rate keeps getting faster and you glance over at her again and she smiles even bigger at you.
"And somebody asked if he loved my sister and guess what!"
You can't talk so you look over at her to let her know you're listening.
"He said that of course he does!"
You feel tears puddle in your eyes and you say "he really said that Katie?"
"Yes! And he brought my class cupcakes! He said that randi kafryn made them this morning and..."
she keeps talking but suddenly your heart and mind ade somewhere else.. on a farm. Just a few miles down the road.
