The USWNT meets Japan for a friendly leading up to the Rio Olympics. Moe has a sever injury and needs surgery.
**
Meghan flew with the ball down the left side of the field, beating two defenders on her run. She dribbled herself in a good position, and sent the ball off towards Alex coming running towards the box. The Japanese goalie comes out way of her line, and beats Alex to the ball just a tiny second before. The goalie just shoots the ball back out, and it now goes towards the middle.
"Moe!" Kling heard Lindsey yell desperately, before it was followed with a scream. She knew right away who that belonged to.
Kling didn't think, just sprinted right over to the middle of the field. Morgan was lying on the ground, holding her hands to her knee in agony. She hated seeing her best friend like that, it tore her apart inside.
Meghan bent down next to the younger player, stroking her head softly. She had gotten there before the paramedics team, but the game was stopped now just waiting for them to enter.
Moe noticed her best friend next to her, and grabbed her hand. Kling let her squeeze it as hard as she needed to, even though she had to focus hard not to let her face expose how strong the younger girls grip were.
"You're gonna be okay." Kling spoke towards Morgan, leaning down so she could hear. The worry in the midfielders eyes were tremendous, and Kling didn't feel good about this at all.
The paramedics team arrived, and the rest of the players around moved away. Kling refused to leave Moe's side. They asked a few questions when Moe had calmed down, but everyone knew this was not a light injury.
The trail came out, and Moe had to be carried off the field, head crooked in her elbow.
Kling walked next to her, hand still squeezed from Moe's strength.
"Kling, back on the field." Jill yelled as Meghan stepped over the sidelines, and the game started up again shortly after. She didn't want to leave her friends side, but she couldn't let down her team either.
"I'll come see you right after the game, okay?" Kling ignored the calls around her, focusing solely on Moe. The injured girl didn't want to let Kling go, but she knew she had to. "You better win for me." Moe tried joking, but the smile quickly turned into a face clearly in pain.
Kling nodded as the trail got pushed further away from her and their hands were forced apart. Kling took a deep breath to collect herself, before entering the game again.
**
Kling couldn't focus. Her game was way off and she knew she was playing poorly. The last ten minutes went by too slow, but Jill had used all the substitutions so she had to play.
The rest of the team stepped up, and with an assist from Heath, Press scored in the 84' minute. Everyone was relieved when the final whistle filled the stadium, and they could log a win over their long time enemies Japan.
Kling didn't wait around for anything else, and after an approval nod from Jill, she headed straight for the locker room.
Dawn came in shortly after her, handing her a water bottle. "She'll need surgery. It doesn't look good." Dawn spoke, sorrow clearly visible in her eyes. Kling stopped to take the bottle, swallowing hard as she tried stopping her thoughts from going to dark places. "But she'll be okay though, right?" Kling asked, still somewhat in denial. "She'll be ready for Rio?" She added, regretting asking the second she said Dawn's face. Her eyes said everything she was afraid to hear. "Go see her. She needs you." Dawn ended, letting her actions speak for her. Kling didn't need a second request, and grabbed her own bag as well as Moe's and headed out towards the doors.

"I'm here for Morgan Brian?" Kling rushed through the doors of the hospital, talking to the receptionist before she even got there.
"Are you immediate family?" She asked, looking skeptical at the girl standing there in full on soccer gear. "I uh-yes! I'm her- girlfriend." Kling lied, knowing this was the only way she could get through to see her best friend.
The receptionist didn't seem convinced, but started typing on her computer. Seconds later she gave Meghan a door number, and pointed her in the right direction.
"Moe?" Kling asked into the room, not bothering to knock before entering. She saw the younger soccer star on the hospital bed, knee high in a bandage.
"Kling? You came! They told me I wasn't allowed to have visitors." Moe lighted up at the sight of her best friend, but quickly looked down again. "I lied to the receptionist." Kling admitted, sitting down at the bed next to Moe.
"You did? What did you say?" Moe sounded intrigued, liking the distraction Kling brought with her. Ever since she had gotten placed in this bed, her thoughts have been eating her alive.
"I told her I'm your girlfriend." Kling smirked, seeing a smile spread on the other girls face as well. "Oh god." Moe laughed, but again stopping to twist her face in agony.
"You need to stop making me laugh." She added shortly, breathing slowly in and out.
Kling looked at her friend and sighed.
"How are you feeling?" Kling asked, trying not to sound too sad. Moe shook her head slightly, giving the defender a look that said more than a thousand words.
"What if I miss Rio?" Moe spoke up after a moment of silence, sounding drained of all joy. "What if I can never play professionally again?" She added, louder and more desperately now.
Kling quickly leaned her arm around the younger player, letting Moe rest her head on her shoulder.
"Don't go there. That's not gonna happen, okay?" Kling tried being assuring and calm, but deep down she was terrified too. She didn't want to go to Rio without her best friend. She needed Moe to be okay.
"I'm scheduled for surgery this afternoon, they said it's risky, but necessary. When I asked the severeness of it, everyone gave me the same look. What if, Meghan? What are we gonna do if I can't play?" Moe was tearing up by now, leaving Kling to fight hard against the tears herself. Kling knew she had to be strong, but she too was heartbroken at the sight of the mess in her arms.
"If that's the case, we'll get through it. I love you for you, not because you're killer at soccer. But let's not go there just yet, okay? Morgan Brian doesn't give up, am I right? You'll be fine, no matter the outcome of this surgery." Kling tried her best to keep it positive, knowing herself how hard it can be to hear those news. Soccer players, athletes in general, they rely on their bodies for their jobs. Their body is what makes hem able to do their job, live out their dream, do what they love. When it fails on you, or you fail your body by pushing it too hard, it hurts because there's so much at stake.
"I love you, too." Moe breathed out, and Kling let out a smile. The older player pulled the younger one closer, hugging her tight.
"Ugh, you're all sweaty." Moe joked, pushing Kling a little away with a playful smile on her face.
The two soccer stars enjoyed each other's company like this for a while, trying not to think too much about the unpredictable future ahead of them.
(A/N: thanks for the request! (Sorry if it's a little short) It was fun trying to make something out of an idea other than my own! Hope it turned out somewhat like you imagined. I'll try to do others soon enough:)
