Back in the days when they were all in high school, Alex never liked her bff Tobin's girlfriend Christen. She was happy when Christen moved away for college and they eventually broke up due to long distance.

Ten years later, Tobin and Alex meet to catch up after having drifted slightly apart due to work and family obligations. Tobin has some shocking news for Alex.

"Give Tobin my best, I'm sorry I can't come with you." Servando gave his wife a kiss on the cheek and picked up bag. Work obligations had caused him to get a late minute call in to a meeting in NY the next morning.
"It's okay, I'm excited for it to just be the two of us like old times actually." Alex smiled at the thought of seeing her former best friend again, after what felt like years. It hadn't been that long, they still kept in touch via phones and messages, but not on a daily basis any longer.

Alex and Servando lives in Orlando, while Tobin lives in Portland. Adulthood happened too fast for any of them to realize, and now they lived completely separate lives.
Alex had some things she needed to do in Portland, so what better chance to catch up with an old friend.

Tobin got to the café they were meeting up at before Alex did, so she found a table. She ordered a coffee, and sat down. She wondered if Alex struggled to find the way, but then remembered they both lived here at one point in time. She knew his place like home.

Tobin felt herself being slightly nervous, seeing as she knew they had a lot to catch up on. Tobin had some great news to share, but at the same time she knew Alex wasn't going to be all too thrilled about them. It's silly, but even after all this time she knew her friend wouldn't approve for whatever reason Tobin still couldn't remotely understand.

"Tobin." Alex said her friends name as she enters the café, seeing the slightly older woman sitting at a table. Tobin looked up, and smiled as she saw Alex approaching.
"Alex, it's been too long." Tobin said, as she got up and they met in a tight hug.
"Way too long." Alex quickly agreed, pulling back to take another look at the girl.
"You look great." Tobin shot in, hinting for Alex to take a seat across from her. Alex smiled at how it still felt so safe to be around her.
"Likewise, how are you?" Alex started, and the old friends started chatting on about their time apart. Their new lives.

It quickly hit them big how very different their lives now are, and how much they've missed. There was a time when there was no doubt in either minds that they would stay as close through it all. That nothing could ever come between them, and the thing is, it didn't. Nothing really came between them, life just happened. That was the one thing they hadn't foreseen, that they would just simply fall out of touch. No dramatic ending whatsoever.

"Servando says hi, by the way. He was disappointed he couldn't make it." Alex brought up the conversation with her husband before she left, seeing as Tobin had asked how he were. She was so happy that the two had become friend, at least to some extent.

Tobin smiled and nodded her head, realizing this topic was inevitable. She figured this was as good of a time as any to share her news, seeing as she was running out of time.
"So I have some news actually." She started, feeling the nervousness creep in on her.
"Okay, go on." Alex said, as Tobin didn't speak any further. Alex had an innocent smile on her face, and it made Tobin a little more calm. It's been years, maybe she's over it and it's all good, Tobin thought to herself.

"I'm seeing someone. Actually, it's getting pretty serious. I think I'm gonna propose." Tobin purposely kept the identity of her girlfriend hidden, hence Alex was thrilled about the news so far.
"I'm so happy for you." She said eager, having a huge grin on her face now. Tobin smiled too, but still wasn't fully convinced.
