You know I never liked coffee
Well
Except for you
You were coffee
Strong and bitter
That was always you
I wanted your taste because it was more than anything I had ever encountered before
I wanted it so much, in fact
That I downed it all in one gulp
And that carried me for awhile but now all I have left of you is
An empty cup and some bitter remnants stuck on my tongue
And I keep trying to go back to your shop to get just one more drop
But all I ever encounter when I get there is a stop
In my heart
Because as I step up to the door
I see that I am not wanted anymore
My picture is plastered up
Making sure I keep out
And as I peer in and try to sneak a glimpse of you
I see you've got a new customer, a regular
Who was smart enough to realize that in order to savor you
She had to take you in espresso shots
Maybe for her it will last
When you and I just moved too fast
